Kirby Air Ride Sequel Announced For Nintendo Switch 2

Kirby Air Ride sequel announced for Nintendo Switch 2

Kirby Air Ride is an oft-forgotten racing game that was released on Nintendo GameCube. Released in 2003, this game offered a racing experience with everyone’s favorite pink puff. Players could race as some of the iconic characters from the series and hop aboard a warp star to race on many tracks. During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, many announcements were made. One of the ones saved for last was a sequel to this game, Kirby Air Riders.

When Kirby Air Ride was first released, it was met with mixed reviews from critics. However, it was still a commercial success for Nintendo. It sold over 1.2 million copies. That is impressive, considering the company is known for Mario Kart, and that series has dominated the console. Kirby has become extremely popular in the past half-decade. In the presentation, Forgotten Worlds was shown to be getting an update for the new console as well.

We didn’t get much information on what the Kirby Air Ride sequel will bring. Undoubtedly, it will be on a grander scale than the GameCube version was. Having played it as a teenager, I remember it feeling like a small game with limited tracks and characters. Nintendo will be going big with this version and we may get some more information during the Nintendo Treehouse presentations the next two days.

Final Thoughts

It is great to see Nintendo leaning into more than just one or two characters. All of the Kirby games have been extremely fun in the past few years. If you haven’t played them, you are missing out. While many only know the lovable character from Super Smash Bros, the pink puff has starred in many fun titles, and the company seems committed to getting more out in the future.
