Little Nightmares Dev Teases New Horror Game

Tarsier Studios originally released the indie hit Little Nightmares back in 2017, followed by a sequel in 2021. Even though these games initially had a quiet launch, they slowly climbed up to ‘cult status’ over the years. Now, during the THQ Nordic 2024 showcase, a trailer of a new game just dropped that is piquing a lot of interest. One would assume that this might be Little Nightmares III in development, but that was already announced a while back. The third entry is being developed solely by Supermassive Games, this time around.

What Is Tarsier Studios New Game?

Right now, everything is a mystery. From the looks of things, it will possibly have the same art direction and gameplay mechanics as the Little Nightmares series. The teaser is only forty seconds long and it just shows one long ‘panning shot’ inside a decrepit barn. Then, an oversized pig, with a gored belly, steps into the frame. Surprisingly, it begins to speak in a raspy voice, announcing, “They’re coming.” Then, the teaser fades to black. There is not much to go on, but it’s definitely rife with speculation.

A Bigger Nightmare

Even though the core gameplay mechanics of Little Nightmares might be a factor, Tarsier Studios is aiming for a totally new experience with their new project. This could be a more action-oriented affair, as opposed to the stealthy format of other Tarsier Studios’ games. Another possible angle is that this title is a horror-themed RPG of some kind. What is established, is that this is going to be a more mature tale and not quite as whimsical as the Little Nightmares games. According to THQ Nordic, on their official YouTube channel:

From the creators of Little Nightmares I & II comes an entirely new vision, unlike anything you’ve seen before.

On May 24, 2022, on Tarsier Studios’ X (formerly Twitter) account, they posted a rather cryptic teaser. It’s a quick montage of a new project they have been working on. Chances are this is related to what was just announced at THQ Nordic’s Showcase a little over a week ago. From what was shown in that montage, there’s; a dilapidated building, a car on a lone road, and a demonic symbol of some kind. It almost feels like this might be more of an open-world adventure. The fact that it showed a vehicle is a good indicator that exploring will be an element to a certain degree.

A New Horror Awaits

Gamers worldwide have gotten a taste of what Tarsier Studios is cooking up with this teaser. There will be a worldwide reveal of this game at Gamescom on August 20th to show what it is all about. So, fans won’t need to wait much longer to see for themselves what Tarsier Studios is putting together. While everyone waits, Little Nightmares I & II is currently available for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Android, and PC to hold you over.
