Magic: The Gathering has seen an increase in popularity for their Universes Beyond line. The Lord of the Rings set was a smashing success. Wizards of the Coast is going full steam ahead on other crossovers in the coming years. This year, the popular card game will get an Assassin’s Creed set. This is highly anticipated as the series has many faithful followers. While the set doesn’t officially release until July, people are already panning the set due to the size of the booster packs.
Magic: The Gathering Assassin’s Creed Booster Packs
Pre-orders have begun for the new Magic: The Gathering set. Booster packs are running between six and seven dollars per pack. However, the size of the booster packs is smaller than the regular booster pack size. Only seven cards will be in each pack. While the idea is to prevent as many duplicates as possible, paying a dollar per card is a steep price for any game.
For collectors who are maybe trying to get certain cards for the artwork, paying this much for so little is not ideal. People want to feel like they are getting value. Players don’t mind paying premium prices if it means getting good value. This isn’t the first time Magic: The Gathering has had this problem.
Not The First Time For Magic: The Gathering
Wizards of the Coast released the microset March of the Machine: The Aftermath. It had a similar issue where packs only contained five cards and collector boosters only contained six cards. The poor response caused Magic: The Gathering creators to rethink their latest set release. Fans are making their voices heard. They would rather have an increased chance at a duplicate card if it means getting more for their money.
Magic: The Gathering has been increasing in price for awhile now. While price increases are annoying, coupled with a decrease in value they are downright infuriating. It will be interesting to see how the Assassin’s Creed set does with the smaller booster pack size.
