Mario and Luigi: Everyone’s Favorite Brothers from the 80’s

I was a child when Mario and Luigi came into my life because my parents didn’t have money to buy a Nintendo console. It was one of my happiest days in childhood. Everything was new: the sounds, the graphics, the emotions—even the discussion of who plays next.

The neighborhood arrived like bees to honey at my house; it was a big special occasion for children of all ages. Everybody wanted a try. There were promises, candies, and even money offered for an opportunity to play. Rescue the princess was the goal for most of us, passing a level more important than passing an exam at school.

But Why Were Mario and Luigi so important?

Mario and Luigi become our new best friends, giving us the freedom to plug and play a beautiful game with brilliant colors and emotion all the time. One no-hero character wants to rescue his princess, which was amazing for a child’s mind, dreams, and analogic life.

From that time, children, teenagers, and adults have converted the Mario Bros. game into a cult. We saw that confirmed in the last movie, selling millions of dollars in tickets in days.

Mario’s History and Game Play

Mario Bros.’s history began in the eighties—on October 18, 1985, to be precise—for the recently launched NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). It was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, who had immense technical difficulties at the time. The game was made entirely in pixel drawing and was an immediate success.

One day, the kingdom of the peaceful Mushroom people was invaded by Koopa, a tribe of turtles famous for their black magic. The quiet and peaceful Mushroom people were turned into simple stones, bricks, and even plants. The Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin.

The only one who could undo this magic spell on the Mushroom people and return them to normal is Princess Toadstool, the daughter of the Mushroom King. Unfortunately, she is in the hands of Bowser, the king of the Koopas.

Mario learns of the Mushroom people’s plight and embarks on an adventure to free the princess from the evil Koopa and restore the fallen kingdom of the Mushroom people.

Who are Mario and Luigi?

The main hero of the Mushroom Kingdom is Mario, a very positive and cheerful plumber with his characteristic mustache. Princess Toadstool, renamed Peach, considers him her trusted friend, and everyone knows him and his brother Luigi for their acts of bravery. Mario uses his powerful jumping ability and a host of upgrades to take on his arch-nemesis, Bowser.

Mario’s brother, Luigi is instantly recognizable by his green color. Luigi is friendly, but a bit of a nervous wreck. However, his skills match Mario’s abilities, so when these brothers team up, there’s nothing they can’t accomplish. If you notice, Luigi is taller and can jump higher than Mario; his mustache is different, too.

All these features have made these two characters a resounding success over time and we look forward to many more surprises for young and old alike.
