To unlock it, players must complete all four Star Cups and defeat Behemoth. The sport is randomly chosen and all bots are on Expert difficulty. When the player wins the Star Cup, they fight the Behemoth King who has more health than Behemoth. This challenge is another reason players want it back but modernized.

Similar to many Nintendo games every character has a specific group based on their attributes. The five groups are All-Around, Technical, Powerful, Speedy, and Tricky characters. All Tricky characters are unlockable and are not playable at the start of the game. Eight characters have alternate colors and outfits. The four sports included in Mario Sports Mix are fun and unique, bringing this game back would only be a good thing and successful for Nintendo. Whether now or when the Nintendo Switch 2 arrives, this game should be getting a remake.
