Mass Effect has officially returned to No Man’s Sky thanks to a crossover expedition event. The return was a part of the annual N7 Day, which celebrates BioWare’s science fiction action RPG series. The event also included a crossover with Destiny 2 as well as a free item chest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. For fans of both Mass Effect and No Man’s Sky, the return of the Normandy is a sight for sore eyes. However, it’s only a portion of what Hello Games has been working on.
The Normandy Returns
The legendary SSV Normandy SR-1 first arrived in No Man’s Sky back in 2021 during one of the first expeditions Hello Games released for the title. Now, it’s back in action for a limited time, which lasts about two weeks. According to the official blog post, those with Hello Games called the event a “love letter from one science fiction game to another.” In the same post, BioWare and EA were thanked for letting the Normandy return for another journey through the galaxies of No Man’s Sky.
For those who were around for the original event back in 2021, this expedition may seem quite similar since it features the same mission. However, it’s still worth doing because both the mission and No Man’s Sky have experienced a huge overhaul since then. For the more new space explorers, especially those who love Mass Effect, there is no better time to take some time out of the old gaming schedule for this limited-time event.
Cross-Saving For Explorers
Along with the arrival of the expedition, a couple more updates were released for No Man’s Sky. Players will soon be able to transfer saves between platforms, so they will never lose their potentially thousands of hours of progress. Hello Games said the decision to add cross-saving was “a little bit like moving house” because the longer players explore in the game, the more complicated it is to move their saves. This feature is now being rolled out to a small number of players at a time, but every space explorer can connect their different accounts. A group of players will then be admitted to the cross-save beta.
PS5 Pro Enhanced Version
Thanks to the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro, players can now experience an enhanced version of No Man’s Sky. This version of the game utilizes PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for upscaling, which allows players to experience the game in 4K resolution while maintaining a frame rate of 60 fps. According to Hello Games, the game is also an early support of 8K resolution, which runs at 30 fps.
The PS5 Pro also allows for upgraded graphics across the galaxies to provide a more stunning image. Hello Games said players who sink time into the enhanced version of the game will experience improved lighting, ultra-quality reflections, and higher-quality ambient occlusion in all modes. These improvements can also be experienced while using the PSVR2 headset.
Conclusion
It’s an exciting time for enjoyers of both No Man’s Sky and Mass Effect. The return of the Normandy is a worthwhile experience for gamers who love science fiction. Remember, Mass Effect is also being celebrated within Destiny 2 and BioWare’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard. BioWare also has new merchandise in its official store to mark the annual celebration of N7 Day.
It’s an even bigger time for Hello Games as a whole thanks to the release of the PS5 Pro and the development of cross-save functionality. All of this development and overhauling is set to lead to the release of Hello Games’ next big project, Light No Fire. While there is no solid release date for that open-world title, it is available for pre-order right now. As for BioWare, teams of talented people are getting to work on Mass Effect 5.
