Destiny 2 is a looter shooter and its main appeal comes from the loot chase present in the game. The game features hundreds of Legendary as well as Exotic weapons. Legendary weapons come with different perk options. These perks are what make a weapon, they are responsible for how a weapon performs and feels. Some perk combinations are better than the rest and the ideal combination is termed the God Roll. The chase for the God Roll is what makes Destiny 2 exciting. However, recently a new controversy has appeared regarding the perk weightings on weapons.
Perk Weightings
Destiny 2 community has always been suspicious that there exists some sort of perk weightings on the weapons, which cause certain perks to appear less than others. However, Bungie always denied and said that there is no form of Perk Weighting in the game. With the launch of Craftable weapons in The Witch Queen, the RNG died out as most of the weapons could be crafted with the perks that players wanted.
Recently, Bungie has tuned down the number of weapons that can be crafted. There are now some amazing weapons in the game, getting the God roll which is entirely RNG. This controversy of Perk Weighting appeared again when players were farming the weapon VS Chill Inhibitor from the Vesper’s Host Dungeon. This weapon has the god roll of Envious Arsenal with Bait and Switch. However, this perk combination rarely appeared on this weapon. Leading players to perform their research and calculation, which led to some interesting results.
Statistics of Perk Combinations
Light. gg is a website that is widely used by the Destiny 2 community, in order to find which, perk a weapon has and what rolls are players using on a specific weapon. Light. gg pulls the perk options from the API of the game and the list in which they are present is the order in which they are present in the API.
Looking at the various perks and their orders in the API of Destiny 2, players discovered a certain pattern. There are two columns of perks. For a specific perk in any column, the chance that a perk from another column drops with it is directly linked to how far the perk is from that row. If two perks are in the same row, the weapon has a higher chance to drop with that combination. So, the further the two perks are the lesser the probability of that perk combination to appear on the weapons.
Bungie’s Response
Bungie saw the community research and acknowledged all the feedback they were getting. They posted on X, that while they have not intentionally weighted certain perks to appear more on a weapon. They are currently investigating a possible bug in the code that affects the RNG of the weapon drops. This statement by Bungie, more or less confirms that the discovery made regarding the perk order affects the probability of certain perk options. Everyone is hoping that Bungie can resolve the issue, before any other scandal breaks.
