Fans of futuristic action-adventure should have a great time with the upcoming game, MindsEye, set to release on June 10, 2025. The trailer dropped earlier today, and it gives us a look into what we can expect from the new title. This new game is a narrative-driven, single-player action adventure thriller (that was way too much to type!) set in a futuristic city known as Redrock. This game was directed by Leslie Benzies (GTA V) and his new studio, Build A Rocket Boy, and it is sporting some high-quality cinematics in the trailer, showing us possible superb combat and grand explosions.
MindsEye: What Is That?
You play as a former elite soldier, Jacob Diaz, who has decided to settle down in the futuristic city of Redrock, where technology reigns supreme and everything looks pretty okay. Yeah, it wouldn’t be a good story if that’s all there was. Jacob has been fitted with a mysterious neural implant, The MindsEye. The problem is that he has no idea what it’s for, aside from giving him fragmented memories from a mission he was on in the past. So, he has to figure out what MindsEye is to make sense of what happened to him.
Even bigger problem? Would this be an action-adventure thriller game without one? The bigger problem is that, as you guessed, the city of Redrock isn’t exactly friendly to people who try to uncover its secrets. So, now he has to fight his way through car chases, guns, robots with a nasty streak, and a politician who seems determined to sweep something under the rug. Just an ordinary Tuesday! Life will not be easy for Jacob if he plans to figure out the meaning behind MindsEye.
What About The Gameplay?
Gameplay-wise, MindsEye isn’t a true open-world game in a sense. The devs are calling it a “fake open world,” meaning it feels massive and lived-in, but you’re being guided through a tight, high-stakes narrative (sounds sketchy, but if it works). The combat mechanics look standard enough for the genre, with gun battles and high-speed chases, so I can’t wait to see if they have something different for us in terms of other mechanics, especially that fancy neural implant Jacob has. What does it do?
Final Thoughts
Reviews have been mixed, to say the least. Cinematic trailers like MindsEye have a bad rep for not delivering quality gameplay after it drops, so many are skeptical about how good the game will actually be. My worry, and the worry of other players, is how well this new title is going to do. It’s dropping the same year as GTA VI, and I don’t know if it’s received enough hype for anyone to make a quick decision about ordering it.
I’m digging the story and the gameplay, from what little I’ve seen, looks solid and polished. I guess we’ll have to see where MindsEye lands after June 10, 2025. Considering that the game director, Leslie Benzies, worked on the GTA series as a producer, MindsEye might be able to hold its own against the seasoned series.
