Minecraft, the global phenomenon and the best-selling video game of all time has reached its 15th anniversary. To celebrate, Mojang has prepared a celebration that will fittingly last 15 days and be filled with discounts and events for participating players. Furthermore, new surprises and rewards will be revealed every day of the event.
Because Minecraft is such a massive game, many wonder what the anniversary will entail and how to celebrate it. As huge a milestone as this is, it is just one of the many historic moments in the game’s history. Here is everything gamers need to know about Minecraft’s 15th anniversary and what that means for the game.
What will Minecraft Offer?
According to Minecraft’s website, this event will offer 15 consecutive days of events, deals, and rewards. Firstly, Mojang will put many of their main gams at a hefty discount. The titles Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends will be on sale for up to 50% off. This discount will be a whole 70% off for iOS and Android, drawing in even more players to the massive game.
Players who stream the game on Twitch for ten minutes or donate to someone streaming the game will get a Purple Cape or Glitch Mask, respectively. Additionally, players who interact on TikTok will receive a unique cape. Finally, Mojang announced that every day there would be new sweepstakes and customization items released every day, so be sure to stay alert.
What Does the Game Have Coming Up?
As big as these offers are, they are far from the only reason to be excited. The developers still have more on their itinerary. For example, the latest update to the game is the 1.21 update “Tricky Trials.” This will provide players with another update adding in puzzle dungeons with new enemies and equally satisfying rewards. While hard to find, they should supply a new challenge for veterans.
The biggest of these is probably the upcoming live-action film from Warner Brothers starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black. In recent years, video game adaptations such as The Super Mario Bros movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s have shown that the medium can improve. Mojang has the chance to add yet another entry into the pantheon of good video game adaptations.
The Scale of Minecraft
As stated above, Minecraft is currently the best-selling game of all time. According to Hypebeast, the game has sold over 300 million copies, nearly double that of the second-place winner, Grand Theft Auto V. This doesn’t just extend to sales, but to how ubiquitous the game is. Virtually every character and mob in the game has become an icon. Mojang ultimately created a cultural touchstone for both kids and adults alike.
The sandbox game was originally an indie title that launched officially in 2011. Since then, the game has not only snowballed in popularity but has continued to change and expand in scale. The fandom is appropriately one of the largest on the planet, complete with the massive convention “Minecon” and a sprawling community of modders, fan animators, and musicians.
