20 years after the franchise’s launch, the Monster Hunter franchise has been quite popular throughout the 20-year timespan. Recently, Capcom announced that the Monster Hunter franchise has reached a huge milestone of reaching 100 million sales worldwide. This is an amazing achievement for Capcom and one of the greatest game series.
Titles such as Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Rise are possible contributors to this success, spanning five years from 2018 to the present. In celebration of this impressive milestone, let’s take a look at some of my favorite games from this legendary franchise. Grab your hunter gear because we’re about to dive right in!
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World is the first 5th-generation hunting action game released in 2018. What separates this game from the others is that it is set in an open world. With fights against various large monsters in a massive and appealing natural environment. After 6 years, this title remains popular with a decent player base and interest and is the main contributor to Capcom’s success. Capcom mentioned in their recent press release that Monster Hunter: World has reached 25 million units in sales.
It is a big milestone for one of the greatest hunting games, and it continues to make relentless progress after 6 years. Its chilling expansion Monster Hunter World: Iceborne was released in 2019 to add new hunting mechanics, new monsters, new locales, and a new story. However, the base game was enough to contribute to this glorious milestone.
Rise and Sunbreak
Monster Hunter Rise was released in 2021 and is the sixth game in the franchise. This game is one of my favorite games of the franchise, alongside World, due to its gameplay features, including the new wire bug mechanic. Since its 2021 release, sales reached a huge rise of 15 million units. Its recent expansion, Sunbreak, released in 2022, has also done well enough to achieve 8 million in sales, making remarkable progress between the base game and expansion.

Anticipation For Wilds
Capcom has a new title on the way, announcing the seventh installment of Monster Hunter Wilds with an announcement trailer currently out. With the high popularity, especially with both recent titles, there’s a great chance the new and upcoming hunting game will maintain that high level of interest or go further beyond. As a huge hunter of the franchise, I’m looking forward to seeing what awaits this new hunting experience.
With this franchise becoming bigger every day, I personally cannot wait to see what heights this next game will push the franchise. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Steam in 2025. As far as news goes, more of the game is yet to be announced, so the wait continues.
