Thanks to the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, players have gotten a taste of what the full game will offer. That includes a variety of accessibility settings that help customize the game to fit certain needs. This justifies many fans’ belief that Wilds is meant to be the most accessible game in series history. While exploring these settings while testing out the demo, it was nice to see exactly what will be available. This includes a setting never seen in the game series before.
Multiple Color Blindness Modes
Monster Hunter Wilds will have three modes for people with color blindness to help them see important in-game information. They promote accessibility for people who deal with Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia. For those who do not need to use these settings, they can stick with the default setting, which is Trichromatic. The modes impact how the Sharpness Gauge, different weapon gauges, Scoutflies, and types of text are shown. Since those are portrayed with reds, greens, and yellows, it’s important for every player to be able to see them properly. They’re crucial to properly take down monsters during an action-filled hunt.
Arachnophobia Mode
In a first for the series, Monster Hunter Wilds will feature an arachnophobia mode as an accessibility setting. It turns spider-like monsters into green, gelatinous slimes. While less fearsome, the carnivorous ones will be fearsome all the same. It’s important to note that, for now, this setting can only be turned on in the starting menu. This is likely due to the monsters already being loaded in before players interact with them up close. So far, the mode has only been confirmed to impact a type of small monster that resembles a mosquito.
With the addition of this setting, one question comes to mind. How will this impact how players see large monsters that resemble spiders? One Temnoceran has already been confirmed for the game, which is the elegant Lala Barina. The chance for monsters like Rakna-Kadaki or Nerscylla to make a reappearance. Since those answers may not get answered before the full release, it will just have to remain a mystery for now.
Other Accessibility Settings
Along with modes for color blindness and arachnophobia, support for players who deal with motion sickness will be available. Players will be able to adjust settings impacting camera shake, motion blur, and more. Players will also be able to disable or enable auto-centering if they so choose. This is for when they’re mounted on their Seikret or when their player characters are on foot. People who don’t deal with motion sickness often mess with these sorts of settings as well. This is especially true for the camera shake setting since it may impact how well they can see when they’re next to a heavy monster.
Of course, the classic visual accessibility settings will be available to all players. Those who need to utilize them will be able to change the sizes of the subtitles to get a better understanding of what’s being said in the game. They can also play around with how the health, stamina, and sharpness gauges are displayed. For the auditory settings, players can choose if they want subtitles to be shown. They will also be able to choose if they want the name of the speaker to be shown alongside the subtitles.
Conclusion
There is a wide variety of settings that players can mess around with to make their experience all the better. Thanks to the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, hunters around the world have been able to see just how customizable the full game might be. With these accessibility settings, including the new arachnophobia mode, more people will be able to enjoy the game to the fullest. Monster Hunter Wilds will be fully released on February 28, 2025. It will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
