Since Capcom first announced Monster Hunter Wilds during The Game Awards in 2023, the company has steadily been giving future players information about the game. New trailers have shown new monsters, NPCs, and locations. Discussions with the developers have revealed many quality-of-life changes, and new moves for all the weapons have been shown. However, two giant pieces of information about the game still remain mysteries.
Flagship Still At Large
Ever since Summer Game Fest 2024, many Monster Hunter fans assumed that the flagship monster for Wilds had been revealed. A trailer showed a brief glimpse of a monster that had the ability to unleash powerful lightning attacks. This monster was later given a bigger spotlight during Gamescom 2024 with yet another trailer. The monster’s name was also revealed to be Rey Dau, the apex predator of the Windward Plains.
However, no confirmation of Rey Dau’s flagship status was ever given. In fact, the opposite held true. During the Capcom PAX West 2024 panel, producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto officially confirmed that it is not the flagship of Monster Hunter Wilds. This leaves fans of the series with a burning question lingering in their minds. If a monster this strong and generally agreed to be amazingly designed is not the flagship, just what will the true one be like?
Waiting For a Release Date
Perhaps the biggest mystery for the players who just want to get their hands on Monster Hunter Wilds already is the release date. All that is confirmed at the moment is that the game will be released sometime in 2025. What nobody knows is the day, month, or even quarter the release will happen. It could be speculated that the game might mirror the timeframe of Monster Hunter World‘s release since Wilds can be perceived as a sequel to it. If that is the case, that means Wilds would be released in early 2025, the first quarter.
Of course, there is also the mystery of when exactly the release date will be announced to the public. One possibility and perhaps the popular guess is that the announcement will happen during this year’s Tokyo Game Show. In 2017, the release date for World was announced at the event. About a month later, the date for the public beta was announced during Paris Games Week. If everything aligns, players may see a similar order and timeframe involving these announcements for Monster Hunter Wilds.
Conclusion
While many aspects of Monster Hunter Wilds are still cloaked in a veil of mystery, the flagship and release date are surrounded by the most questions. While fans can hope, speculate, and even dream about the answers, there’s not much they can do until Capcom decides to make the information known. Thankfully, if these questions are answered during this year’s Tokyo Game Show, they won’t have to wait long. The giant convention starts on September 26 and wraps up on the 29th.
