Oilwell Basin will be the new local in Monster Hunter Wilds, as the showcase team stated “It’s a region where oil wells and, on occasion, raging fires burn.” The trailer proves this fact by showing the Hunter walking through literal oil as everything is covered in said oil, and oil seeps out of old pipes and holes while steam rises from the ground. In another scene, the Hunter is riding with their Palico on their Seikret, and the oil is burning and causing mini eruptions.

There will probably be life that will show off the ecosystem properly in the Oilwell Basin, some explosive wildlife we can use to trigger the oil in some areas and set them all off. I am sure there will be environmental traps, for both the Hunters and their targets. In the trailer we see the Hunter triggering a mechanism to hit a monster and knocking it over. But seeing as the place is mostly underground we will probably use the stalactites to make them fall on monsters. For the Hunters, the oil will probably limit mobility, making it hard to roll around and even slow movements if we get covered with too much.

Monsters

We will start with the mysterious monster known as “The Black Flame.” This monster is known only by its nickname by the people of Azuz, it’s the apex predator of the region. When upon appearing the villagers go into a panic. It looks to have a octopus-like body, and the ability to spew flames as it is covered in oil. It will probably toss oil spots and then set them on fire for us to get hit by.

Rompopolo is next up, A brute wyvern that adapted to its environment and used its body to spew some gas and move agile around its territory at the bottom of the oil pits. It can be seen using its gas at the bottom and causing an eruption of oil. Ajarakan is another monster that has been revealed. A fanged-beast wyvern that has a flame-like outer shell, it is agile and uses its environment to move around and attack. Its body glows when it produces its magma-covered attacks. The Hunter can be seen getting into a shield lock with it, yet another entertaining mechanic coming with Monster Hunter Wilds.

Conclusion

The new locale and monsters all seem to bring more life into the much-anticipated game. While there isn’t much to go off, they did announce the open beta, finally! If you just want the dates it’s October 31st to November 2nd. If you want the full details you can check out this article here.
