Monster Hunter Wilds’ Surprising Open Beta Test Dates Revealed

Another big date for Monster Hunter Wilds has finally been revealed. The dates for the Open Beta Test were announced during the first day of Paris Games Week, thanks to the help of producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto. The reveal happened nearly one month after the release date was announced during the Tokyo Game Show. Just like with each new bit of detail, fans of the series are even more fired up. That’s especially true since the date range is arriving much sooner than previously thought.

The Official Open Beta Test Dates

To the surprise of hunters around the world, the Open Beta Test period begins next week. For PlayStation 5 users who subscribe to PlayStation Plus, early access play begins on October 28 at 8:00 p.m. PT and ends on October 30 at 7:59 p.m. For everyone else, the Open Beta Test runs from October 31 at 8:00 p.m. to November 3 at 6:59 p.m. During this period, crossplay will be available. This includes those who are not subscribed to PlayStation Plus or Game Pass.

Those who take part in the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test will receive a little bonus cosmetic item when the game launches in full. They’ll receive a Stuffed Felyne Teddy pendant that they can decorate their weapons or their Seikret’s saddle with. For those ordering the more expensive versions of the game, it’ll just be another addition to the treasure trove of cosmetics they will be getting anyway.

What To Expect

The Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test will include three parts. The first part is a full look at the character customization found within the game. This is different from the demos that have been available at in-person events, which only had premade characters to choose from. According to footage shown in the broadcast, the character customization is the most in-depth in the history of the series. This includes actual body sliders as well as more detailed hair, eye, and makeup settings. When creating their Palico partner, players will be able to choose if they want their furry friend to be voiced among other options. Any customizations made can carry over to the full release.

The second part of the Open Beta Test is the Story Trial. In this part, players will be able to experience the opening cut scene before hunting down a Chatacabra while going through the tutorial. The third part is the Doshaguma Hunt. As the name implies, players will be tasked with hunting down the alpha of the pack. This will be the first true introduction to the pack-hunting mechanic found within Monster Hunter Wilds. During either quest, players will have the option to fire an SOS flare to hunt with other players online. If no one’s available, up to three NPC hunters will join the quest to help out.

Conclusion

With the announcement that the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test period will be coming surprisingly early, even more hype is building. Players are excited to test out what the game has in store, especially the ones who haven’t been able to touch the game at events like Gamescom or PAX West. Even though the testing period is just for a few days, hunters will be able to get their fill of hunting monsters until the full release. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release worldwide on February 28, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Until then, players might just encounter producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto and his iconic hammer-wielding talents during the Beta.
