Hunters around the world, the day has finally come. The Monster Hunter Wilds release date has finally been revealed. The big announcement happened during the PlayStation State of Play. It was much to the surprise of many who thought it would happen during the Tokyo Game Show. Of course, the release date isn’t the only thing that was revealed in the newest trailer. New names and faces have officially been added to the monster roster, including the big and bad flagship of the game.
The Official Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date
The official Monster Hunter Wilds release date is officially confirmed to be February 28, 2025. This means the ones who believed that the game would be released in the first quarter have been proven to be correct. This was a popular theory since many believed the game would sort of mirror the release date of Monster Hunter World. The big date that still hasn’t been released yet is the one for the public demo.
Monster Hunter Wilds is already available for pre-order as well. The base game costs $69.99, the deluxe version is $89.99, and the premium deluxe version sets buyers back $109.99. Of course, the more expensive versions of the game come with a load of cosmetics for Hunters and their Seikrets to enjoy. In addition to that, those who get the premium deluxe edition will enjoy extra DLC cosmetic packs that will be released at later dates.
The Big and Bad Flagship Monster
The other gigantic news given to Monster Hunter fans is the official confirmation of the flagship monster. That monster is called Arkveld, the White Wraith. It’s a monster once believed to be extinct and is shrouded in all sorts of mystery. One of the monster’s main features is its two large chain-like appendages that extend from its wings. In the new trailer, Arkveld can be seen using those appendages to attack and overpower Rey Dau, the monster fans previously thought was the flagship of Monster Hunter Wilds.
The reason why Arkveld is confirmed to be the flagship monster is that it is being used as the main part of the cover art for the game. As seen in the trailer, the White Wraith has a crucial part in the plot, which is also the signature of flagship monsters. What is currently not known about it is the category of monster that it belongs in. Since it does have wings, it could be categorized as a Flying Wyvern, but Arkveld could very easily be an Elder Dragon instead.
Even More Monsters Revealed
Along with Arkveld, two other monsters took to the spotlight in this new trailer. One of them happens to be the apex monster that rules the Scarlet Forest, Uth Duna. It’s a Leviathan that has been able to adapt to a water-rich environment, which is why it looks like a combination of an anaconda and a koi fish. The monster can use the moisture in the environment and its own bodily fluids to create a veil around its body for protection. It’s most often seen during the Scarlet Forest’s inclemency period called the Downpour.
The third monster seen in the trailer is another addition to the Windward Plains. Quematrice is a Brute Wyvern that takes inspiration from the cockatrice, a mythical beast that is essentially a wyvern with a chicken head. However, Quematrice doesn’t sport wings. Instead, it dons a long and scaly tail that it uses to ignite a flammable substance that it spreads on the ground. According to the official Monster Hunter website, hunters can often find it fighting with small carnivores over carcasses since it turns out to be a scavenger.
Conclusion
The reveal of the Monster Hunter Wilds release date and flagship at the State of Play has effectively ramped up excitement for the game. Hunters now have about five months to get what they need to do in World and Rise done as they prepare for the release of Wilds. The biggest thing they need to know now is the release date for the public demo. That very well could happen at this year’s Tokyo Game Show since the Scarlet Forest will be shown off in more detail. It’s currently unclear what else will be shown off or discussed when the time comes.
