Along with making a surprise appearance during the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom laid out the roadmap for Monster Hunter Wilds. Among that roadmap are two windows for upcoming free title updates, which fans are already excited about. They have many reasons to be, especially since an official launch trailer was released on the very same day. The roadmap appears at the end of the launch trailer and the shorter one during the State of Play. And one very colorful and bubbly monster took the spotlight.
The Bewitching Dancer in Monster Hunter Wilds
Mizutsune, the Bewitching Dancer, will be arriving at Monster Hunter Wilds sometime during the spring. That’s when the first of the two known title updates is coming around. The second one will arrive in the summer. The monster, also called the Bubble Fox Wyvern, was last seen in Monster Hunter Rise. However, its first appearance was in Monster Hunter Generations, where it was one of the four flagships. We’ll bring the other three up a bit later. In both trailers, it is seen making a bubble trail around a lone Doshaguma, which will likely become its prey.
By glancing at the background during its appearance in the trailers, it’s clear that Mizutsune will be found in the Scarlet Forest. That means it’ll join the likes of fellow returning monsters like Congalala and Yian Kut-Ku. It will also be in the presence of the equally graceful Lala Barina. While Mizutsune may look adorable to some, it shouldn’t be underestimated. If Monster Hunter Wilds follows the traditional pattern with title updates, the bubble fox will be introduced as a High Rank monster.
What This Could Mean for the Fated Four
As previously mentioned, Mizutsune is a part of the beloved Fated Four. The other flagships are Astalos, Gammoth, and Glavenus. Since Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, the quartet hasn’t been united in a mainline game. In terms of the main series, Glavenus was last seen in Monster Hunter World thanks to Iceborne. Astalos joined Mizutsune in Rise thanks to the Sunbreak expansion. Poor Gammoth hasn’t seen the light of day in the main series since Generations Ultimate.
With the reveal that Mizutsune is returning, hope has once again been rekindled in the hearts of hunters. Fans of the Fated Four want to see the four monsters in the same game once more. This is especially true for Gammoth, whose massive size made it an impossible challenge to add it in the fifth generation. However, many hunters believe that the technology has advanced enough to help thrust monsters like Gammoth (and Lagiacrus) back into the spotlight. Perhaps Wilds will truly be the game to reunite this beloved group.
A Hunter’s Ever-Growing Excitement
Just like every hunter around the world, seeing the new trailers and the title update roadmap has made me even more excited about Monster Hunter Wilds. While I enjoyed fighting Mizutsune in Rise, it was one of the monsters I hoped to see in more advanced graphics. Thankfully, the dev team has granted my wish, and I will be able to fight the Bewitching Dancer once more. Of course, I am also pumped about anything else that will be in the upcoming title updates. For Monster Hunter as a whole, more is almost always better.
