Capcom Shows Off Monster Hunter Wilds’ Amazing Weaponry

Monster Hunter Wilds Insect Glaive

Capcom is consistently releasing exciting videos involving Monster Hunter Wilds. These videos highlight the mechanics and weapons that will be found in the game. With every video, fans are becoming more enthusiastic about the coming weeks and months. Half of the available weapons in M0nster Hunter Wilds have been revealed so far. Here’s what future players need to know about them as well as an explanation of a new mechanic, Focus Mode.

An Explanation of Focus Mode

Focus Mode is all about giving players more freedom of movement during attacks and zeroing in on weak points. When aiming an attack or guarding, players will be able to rotate their character’s body. This means heavy and slow attacks like ones with a Great Sword or Hammer will have more of a chance to hit. In this mode, the player character will also attack and guard in the direction the camera is facing. Without it, they’ll have to manually make their characters face the direction they want to attack or guard.

Speaking of attacks, they will sometimes cause an area on the monster to be weakened. This is similar to tenderizing found in Monster Hunter World. Focus Mode highlights these weak points as well as other situational weak points. Hitting these spots does more damage than landing an attack on other areas. With Focus Mode also comes Focus Strikes. They’re special attacks that can be done while in the mode. They have the potential to do massive damage when they’re landed on a monster’s weak points. So far, each weapon will have its version of these types of attacks.

Great Sword

The first weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds that Capcom released a video for is the beloved Great Sword. It’s a weapon that delivers powerful and satisfying strikes and is often used for hit-and-run tactics. Players can also use the weapon to guard against oncoming attacks from monsters that don’t take too kindly to being struck with a giant blade. In the video about the weapon and in previous trailers, its Focus Strike attack has been shown off. It consists of a giant slash down a monster’s side that does some major damage.

Heavy Bowgun

The Heavy Bowgun is primarily a ranged weapon that can be used to overwhelm monsters with a variety of ammo types. During the weapon’s Ignition Mode, energy can be used to fire special ammo types. When this energy is depleted, it will begin to build again. Successful hits on a monster make the process faster. It also features Auto-Guard, but players can still choose to guard against attacks manually. Its overview video also shows a player practically jamming the barrel into a monster’s mouth during a Clash. That’s when monsters and hunters go directly head-to-head in hopes of overpowering one another.

Insect Glaive

The agile Insect Glaive pairs the player up with little allies known as Kinsects. These colorful bugs can be used to collect extracts from monsters that give the player temporary and powerful buffs. In the video Capcom released for it, a player is shown to do the classic Insect Glaive maneuver of launching into the air and attacking a monster from above. This is followed by what seems to be the first look at mounting in Monster Hunter Wilds. A sneak peek of a new attack is in the video as well. It shows the player jamming the blade of the weapon into the monster before spinning around like an Olympic gymnast.

Gunlance

The Gunlance combines explosions, stabbing, and guarding. Fans of the weapon seem to be ecstatic to pick it up in Monster Hunter Wilds as it has gotten a bit of an overhaul. The weapon will have more moves and much more mobility to make fights all the more fun. In fact, out of the weapons seen so far, it seems to have the most new attacks. Players will be able to sidestep and move while guarding and charging up attacks. Perhaps the most surprising new Focus Mode attack that allows the Gunlance to act as a spinning drill.

Hunting Horn

The Hunting Horn is a whimsical and silly weapon that doubles as an instrument. Players can play certain tunes to provide buffs to themselves and their fellow hunters. In Monster Hunter Wilds, the silliness of this weapon is being turned up. The Hunting Horn can now place Echo Bubbles to give special effects to a small area. The animations for using the weapon have been cranked up. Players will get to watch their characters dance or even play it like a guitar before performing certain attacks.

Long Sword

The Long Sword is a fast weapon that’s all about reflexes and precision while looking like an anime character. Landing certain attacks with this weapon will fill up what’s known as a Spirit Gauge. Once it turns red, certain attacks with the Long Sword will be strengthened. The weapon can be used to counter a monster’s attacks. While it can be hard to tell since this is a fast weapon, its overview video does show new attacks as well. Some of these include new follow-ups after big attacks and its Focus Slash.

Charge Blade

The Charge Blade is one of the morphing weapons found in Monster Hunter Wilds. It can be a complicated weapon since it takes on multiple forms. Sword Mode lets players attack and move around quickly while Axe Mode is slower and deals massive damage. Sword Mode is used to charge up phials to make those big attacks hit much harder. Its new attack in Focus Mode makes the giant blade of the weapon in Axe Mode spin, effectively turning it into a buzz saw to attack monsters with.
