Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Patch: What Has Changed?

Mortal-Kombat-1

Netherealm Studios isn’t afraid to mix things up, especially concerning the content in Mortal Kombat 1. A new patch just dropped and there have been many tweaks with gameplay, along with some other surprises. The most notable change is the addition of Takeda Takahashi and Ferra to the roster. The former will be a selectable fighter, while the latter will be on the kameo roster. They’re both zoners, with Takeda using his whips to keep opponents afar and Ferra unleashing a slew of leaping attacks.

Both Takeda and Ferra made their debut back in Mortal Kombat X back in 2015. This installment introduced some next-generation fighters from legacy characters. This included Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, and Takeda Takahashi. Takeda was a member of the Shirai Ryu and the offspring of Kenshi during the timeline of Mortal Kombat X. With this next timeline forged by Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat 1, Takeda is now the cousin of Kenshi and a former member of the Yakuza from Japan.

Laws of the Outworld

As mentioned, Ferra made her debut in Mortal Kombat X. In that installment, she was a hybrid fighter as she rode on the back of a troll-like brute named ‘Torr.’ They were the guards of Kotal Khan after swearing allegiance to him after he saved them from the wastelands of the Outworld. In Mortal Kombat 1, Ferra will use a player’s selected fighter as her rider. She offers buffs, mid-air, and sweeping attacks which can help zone opponents. She works well with Takeda, which serves her as a complimentary addition to this update.

There are also several new customizations with the new Mortal Kombat 1 DLC patch. Fans have been asking for the old-school skins for some fighters and they are getting it, with some additions being rather surprising. Some of the new customizations are:

  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 skins for; Rain, Quan-Chi, and Ermac.
  • Skins for; Reptile, Smoke, and Sub-Zero from the 1995 movie.

There were some glitches during brutalities that have been ironed out along with some other visual improvements. One of the most significant updates with this patch is the stabilization of 60 fps during online matches, which is highly important to fighting games. Some framerate drops were happening while competing online, which was costing some players entire matches. Hopefully, this patch will rectify that situation for good, so it will save some players some embarrassing moments during a heated round.

The “Happy Endings” achievement/trophy wasn’t popping up for players on consoles and that also has been fixed. Thus, the ‘King of the Hill’ game mode kept crashing and players would get kicked off servers. So, this problem has also been dealt with. Furthermore, Netherealm Studios also looked into other quality-of-life improvements for Mortal Kombat 1, which can be found here. Despite all these quirks, Mortal Kombat 1 has had a fairly solid launch since last September. Needless to say, there’s always room for improvement.

This won’t be the last DLC, by any means, since Netherealm Studios has more Kombat packs planned. There are rumors of Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, and even the Terminator currently in the pipeline for future DLC. Only time will tell to see what’s in store for worldwide Mortal Kombat fans. Mortal Kombat 1 is now available for; PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
