Mortal Kombat 1 Newest DLC Includes Ghostface, Conan and More

Mortal Kombat 1 is aiming to shake things up with the addition of really popular pop culture characters with its new Khaos Reigns DLC announcement. Ever since Mortal Kombat X, Netherealm Studios hasn’t been shy about throwing in some rather random icons from alternate dimensions. More often than not, these include figures within the; horror, sci-fi, and action titles of the 1980’s. Some of these names fit in nicely with the famous blood-soaked tournament, while others can sometimes be an awkward fit. These include; Robocop, Spawn, and Rambo to name a few.

So, ever since the tenth entry of this franchise, it’s become a tradition to throw in some; killers, warriors, and misfits from other franchises. When it comes to Mortal Kombat, rumors about DLC characters tend to swirl around. More often than not, these rumors end up being true while a few fizzle out. For example, in Mortal Kombat 11, Ash Williams from Evil Dead was supposed to join in, but things didn’t work out. With Mortal Kombat 1, there are now characters from all sorts of renowned franchises jumping into the fray as DLC.

For many, the most exciting DLC addition for Mortal Kombat 1 is the inclusion of Ghostface from the Scream franchise. Ghostface isn’t really a “character” per se, but rather a symbol. Anybody and everybody can don the costume and can be a very different killer in their own right. So, in terms of gameplay, this character can be anywhere from a brawler to an assassin class. Anything from throwing knives to even guns plays a factor in how Ghostface can fight. There are many possibilities with Ghostface’s move set and it’s fun to think about.

Conan the Barbarian from the 1982 Movie

It’s fitting to have a muscle-bound warrior from the Iron Age potentially take a stab at Mortal Kombat 1. Chances are Conan the Barbarian will be a bruiser and even a grappler of all manners. It would have been possible to have his likeness reflected in Frank Frazetta’s classic artwork. Instead, we are getting the interpretation of the 1982 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold isn’t afraid to lend his likeness to other mediums, especially since it was used for the T-800 Terminator model as a DLC fighter for Mortal Kombat 11. So, it is good to see him back in action in a different form.

T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Having the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day may seem like an odd choice to put into the DLC roster for Mortal Kombat 1. However, with a franchise full of; gods, ninjas, cyborgs, and spirits, then perhaps having a liquid metal being isn’t too out of the ordinary. His potential fighting style can go in any direction. No doubt that he will have speed and a reach that can take over the arena. Not to mention projectiles from a variety of firearms at his disposal. Whatever the case, the T-1000 is indeed a refreshing combatant to mix in with the tournament.

Along with these aforementioned announcements, other notable mentions are; Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. Of course, with this new timeline structured by Liu Kang, their stories will be vastly different than what’s known from their classic lore. Plus, along with these new characters, will be the return of ‘Animalities’. The Khaos Reigns DLC Kombat Pack will be available on September 24th.

Mortal Kombat 1 is now available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
