You Won’t Believe What MTG Crossover Expansion Set Is Coming

Chances are good you were all up on the latest for the 2024 MTG release schedule. But you seriously aren’t prepared for this one. This will be an MTG crossover expansion set — much like the LOTR one. Chances are good, though, Wizards of the Coast will be breaking barriers onto other planes of existence unlike what planeswalkers normally do with this particular set scheduled to release in July of 2024.

We’re Talking About the MTG Crossover Expansion Set for Assassin’s Creed!

Yep. WotC did it.

As you may have guessed, though, this set is scheduled to be a Universes Beyond edition that is — spoiler alert — Modern legal. And some other crazy things about this set may wow you.

Aside from the hype factor that this goes into one of the most well-known console franchises in history (arguably sicker than Fallout, and that was insane enough!), expect this expansion to release after Modern Horizons 3 in June to introduce a whole lot of crazy into this MTG meta.

This New Assassin’s Creed MTG Crossover Expansion Set Will Be Marketed as “Beyond Boosters”

What you’re going to see with the new set are MTG booster packs exclusive to Universes Beyond. The best way to compare these bad boys will be as an evolved iteration of how March of the Machine: The Aftermath was positioned, a booster relatively smaller than your traditional booster (which some aren’t liking).

However, you may have learned that The Aftermath Epilogue Boosters as well as the set itself from last year sort of missed the mark, probably because of how small it was in comparison. Let’s say this is Wizards of the Coast testing out what they’ve learned and what not to repeat (although in our opinion, there were some golden nuggets from the Aftermath!).

Assassin’s Creed indeed won’t follow suit with what may have been the Aftermath’s issue — yet this MTG crossover expansion set won’t be a complete one as what we’re used to. Nor will we be able to draft any of the cards. Arguably not a massive issue as this will be all about Assassin’s Creed (!!). But one begs to determine just what will make this crossover stand out the most.

How About the Fact That This MTG Crossover Expansion Set Will be a Decent 100-Card Total?

Not too shabby, especially knowing it will be a smaller set in comparison to the recent others. This makes sense as it would be in WotC’s best interest to dive into the entire franchise and not just one game. So expect to possibly see all the fan favorites. Not just Altair or Ezio.

Moreover, in addition to not being a draftable set (which we can let slide), you won’t find Commander Precons with this either (also not that big a deal). Why? There just wouldn’t be enough support to build them, having to draw from other expansions to fill out the 99.

Make no mistake, though: you’ll have plenty of legendaries to work with in this set. And you’ll be able to develop a commander deck with at least one of them. I particularly love the obvious synergies you’ll end up seeing with these new cards when they come in relating to the recent Outlaws of Thunder Junction and a little card, from the Murders at Karlov Manner release, known as….

Will assassins be the dominant archetype when Assassin’s Creed releases? Very possibly.

We have just one question, though, and you guys may have already asked it:

What the heck will this new MTG mechanic called “freerunning” be?
