An Expanded Monster Manual
One of the most classic experiences in D&D is journeying through a traditional dungeon for piles of loot only to find that a gruesome monster awaits at the end. With the new Monster Manual arriving on February 18, 2025, that experience can be expanded. The upcoming version of the guide will feature more monsters than ever before. It’s sure to give Dungeon Masters (DMs) some extra ideas when planning out their campaigns as well as give players several surprises around the bend.
Of course, the Monster Manual will feature the stats, abilities, and descriptions of each creature to help everyone better understand them. What will be most striking though is the art that will be featured throughout the book. Just like the creatures themselves, the art will range from being beautiful and serene to eerie and grotesque. This perfectly matches the range of experiences the monsters in this book will bring to the tabletop.
Dragon Anthology
Speaking of creatures, dragons will be getting another time to shine among the new books coming in 2025. Currently just being called the Dragon Anthology book will be the first anthology and adventure book for the new 2024 rules for D&D. It will feature 10 short adventures that all feature dragon encounters within dungeons. These can easily be integrated into campaigns if they fit the tone of them. Encountering a giant dragon while exploring a dark and dreary dungeon is always an exciting yet terrifying time, so many DMs will likely be taking advantage of this book, especially the ones new to the game.
Of course, these adventures can be given some twists and turns by perhaps switching out the type of dragon players will encounter. Options to do this can be found in sources like The Practically Complete Guide to Dragons or Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. The new Dragon Anthology can be added to players’ collections of books in the summer of 2025.
Forgotten Realms Player & Campaign Guides
The most popular setting in perhaps all of D&D will be getting two new books to help players and Dungeon Masters properly navigate and explore beloved locations. The Forgotten Realms Player Guide does what the name implies. It mainly focuses on the experience of players.When making their characters, players will find new sub-classes, feats, backgrounds, spells and more. They will also get the chance to belong to certain factions. For those who have explored a part of the Forgotten Realms through tabletop campaigns or Baldur’s Gate 3, some of these factions are likely to be familiar. The Harpers, Red Wizards of Thay, and more will be featured in the book.
The Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide focuses on and helps DMs weave a new story into very established locations like Baldur’s Gate, Waterdeep, Icewind Dale, and many more. The book will dig into the different areas in the Forgotten Realms and the types of experiences they can bring to a campaign. These experiences can make campaigns be a classic fantasy adventure, survival horror, urban adventure, and much more. Both guides will arrive sometime in late 2025.
