4 Great Mythologies For Potentially New God Of War Series

Looking for any news about a new God of War series? Join the club and accept that you don’t have to wait for an official release announcement because the last installment, God of War: Ragnorok hinted at possible other mythologies for any new God of War games. Specifically, these hints are made mostly through Tye’s interactions with the game. What’s even better is that more than one mythology is hinted toward!

If you played 2018’s God of War, you may notice subtle hints predicting its sequel game focusing on Norse mythologies. Unless you listened heavily to the in-game conversations with other characters, you might have missed it. In various in-game interactions, you’ll receive random information about future characters the duo would meet in God of War: Ragnarok. The same is true for that game teasing the future as well.

Celtic Mythology in a New God of War Series

Since the previous God of War series was based in Europe, it would make sense and be far easier to continue the trend. So, what do you know about Celtic mythology? Probably not much. This mythology isn’t as well-known as its European counterparts but would make the most logical choice for the new God of War series in location. Additionally, Mimir is canonically Celtic!

Don’t be fooled into thinking that the Celtic Gods are a bunch of drunk men playing bagpipes. That’s not rooted in truth. Surprisingly, Celtic Gods don’t seem to be pushovers in the slightest. For instance, their main God, Dagda, could make the best villain with weapons that could rival Kratos and even the Gods he’s killed.

Aztek Mythology in New GoW Series

No one ever said the new God of War series must follow only one creation myth. In Aztec mythology, many variations of the universe’s origins exist that would create a great plot. For instance, one Aztec story explains the gods’ failed attempts at world creation because of their greed. Sounds like familiar enemies that Kratos would be more than happy to kill.

The boss fights in the new God of War series would be epic. Perhaps in this game, the Aztec people choose not to sacrifice anyone angering their gods, which kicks off the new series. For the first time, it wouldn’t only be Kratos fighting against Gods, but people, which would make a great plot twist. Also, Kratos would have a reason to fight, especially after finding peace in God of War: Valhalla.

Egyptian Mythology in the New God of War Series

Here come the powerful Egyptian Gods! Not the ones from the classic anime show Yugi-Oh!, though. Those gods cannot be summoned from a card game. Ancient Egypt was supposed to be the original setting of God of War first for a reason. Monstrous tombs, labyrinth-like pyramids, and more suggest that Ancient Egypt is a great choice for a new God of War series.

And as far as the Gods are concerned, Anubis would make the most menacing villain. After finding redemption and peace from his traumatic past, this game could be Kratos’ final test to see if he’s truly changed. Anubis has the power to weigh the sins of the dead to decide where they go in the afterlife. What if Kratos and Anubis’ stories aligned for the new God of War series?

Japanese Mythology in New God of War Series

We cannot forget Japanese mythology as a setting choice in the new God of War series. This mythology offers a different take on death and spirit worlds. In the older God of War games, the Gods and humans could share the same world. However, the Shinto gods (Kami) can only interact with humans by inhabiting an element in nature.

Being a Japanese mythology, you can expect to see katatas swinging. In my eyes, Kratos sword-fighting a Samurai would be amazing! Also, the Yokai would be the main monsters responsible for giving players the most intense migraines. If you’re unfamiliar with Yoaki, you can find these terrifying monsters in popular Studio Ghibli films.
