3 Best Game Releases In The Past Week From 2nd June 2025 To 8th June 2025
The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally dropped, and with the console comes a slew of new game releases sure to tickle your taste buds…if you’re the sort of person to lick your games…that is. Do not recommend. The console itself will have already put a sizeable dent in your budget unless you’re Mr Richie Rich all up in your stately mansion supping on a milkshake from the McDonald’s in your basement, but what is a new console without a set of new games to play?
Once again, we find ourselves searching for the best releases of the past week to recommend. Not an easy task, as there have been so many remastered editions and re-releases for the Nintendo Switch 2 to consider. We press on, however, to give you a little bit of guidance on what might be a good set of games to spend your hard-earned dollars on. So grab your Nintendo, find yourself a nice, cozy corner where no one will interrupt you, and let’s find something to properly steal your attention.
#1: Mario Kart World
You can’t have a best game releases list without mentioning the big one. Mario Kart World has been one of the most highly anticipated stars of the Nintendo Switch 2 release, and already, it’s waving the winner’s trophy with a 90/100 on Metacritic. The game generally honors the tried and tested Mario Kart formula, with all the iconic staples you would expect: blue shells of death, turtles rescuing wayward characters from falling into an abyss, and those all-important item boxes blinking rainbow colors to grab the attention of fast-flying racers.
This Mario Kart offers a few more things than the usual, however, including rail grinding and wall driving, which makes the tracks feel a lot more three-dimensional, and more than this, it offers an open world free roam that makes you think of GTA-type inspirations and sandbox euphoria. Each new track has a world around it to explore, and just to amp up that realism, Nintendo have embraced the art of real physics so if a blue shell goes off in the water, you can use the momentum to ride the wave for a little speed boost if you happen to be there at the right time.
The game promises a decent balance between embracing old successes and adding new innovations to set itself apart, and for the time being, players seem to agree that the gameplay is fast and fun. Mario Kart World was released with the new Nintendo Switch 2 on 5th June 2025.
#2: Lies of P: Overture

The original Lies of P, first released on 19th September 2023, took us on a dark, Pinocchio-inspired journey through the crumbling streets of Krat where we, as a…puppet? A human? was set to cut down corrupted puppets and maladies alike in true Soulslike fashion. Overture does a seamless job of fitting in with that bleak world, providing more stunningly dystopian places to visit and filling that world with new and terrifying things to utterly destroy, including fish that leap out of the water and scuttle so fast towards you, you’ll never want to go near the sea again.
This DLC game release pads out the story by tying up some loose ends that were left as potentially unsatisfying cliffhangers in the original release, and impressively, it doesn’t try to outclass its original story at all by going in with unnecessary improvements. Though the game could be taken as a stand-alone offering, you can’t actually access the DLC until most of the way through the game, and knowledge of the ending will probably help you out a little along the way, if you managed to play the original without the DLC back in 2023.
Of course, the true shine of this choice of game releases comes in the form of its bosses. The bosses are varied and fun to go up against while providing that ever-necessary tug on the old heartstrings, and are, overall, equipped with a better difficulty balance than those in the base game. Lies of P: Overture was released for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X/S and One on 6th June 2025.
#3: Survival Kids
A cozy co-op adventure to end with this week’s game releases list, as we take a look at the last of our top game releases, Survival Kids. A prime example of why you should explain to your kids the dangers of wandering off, the players find themselves as children adrift on the back of a giant turtle, or ‘wurtle’, having gotten lost in pursuit of a treasure map. The idea is to gather resources and solve puzzles in order to keep yourself alive and eventually build a raft to find your way back home.
While this can be played as a stand-alone adventure, it has been designed for you to play with friends, though this is one of the few friendly games that allows you to play over different platforms. If playing with friends, your character will get a little stat boost when in close proximity, including speed while lifting heavy things, which becomes an amazing boon in certain areas. Each wurtle back provides different themed terrains to explore with an abundance of different resources, and the cool thing is that this doesn’t rely heavily on an inventory system like other games in this genre, rather encouraging you to think in the now with what you have to hand.
This game is perfect for those of you who are a bit overcooked from the work week. It doesn’t require too much brain power to get the pieces together and achieve something on the island, but it does provide enough stimulation to end up making you lose hours of precious time in a revenge bedtime move that will set you back for weeks. Survival Kids was released on 5th June 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Just Get Them All
Okay, sure, budget is a thing, but do you really need all those groceries? Having these game releases hit the markets at the same time as the Nintendo Switch 2 has probably snapped a few of those tight purse strings and is making a few of us a little scared to open our banking apps, but the amount of joy that these games bring is sure to be worth it. Honorable mentions should go to FAST Fusion, released on 5th June 2025 for Nintendo Switch 2, Dragon is Dead, released on 6th June 2025 for PC, and the Bravely Default Remaster, released on 5th June 2025 for Nintendo Switch 2.
Whatever you’re looking for, the genres of games coming out on the Nintendo Switch 2 this month are eclectic and interesting, designed to really draw you in to get you used to that shiny new D-pad, and to maybe make you re-mortgage your house.
