BioShock 4 in the works

BioShock 4 Continues to Navigate the Stormy Seas of Development

Ever since its initial announcement in 2019, the development of Bioshock 4 has been a long and winding road. Frankly, the updates since then have been less than reassuring. Given that the project reportedly failed an internal review earlier this year, the development studio Cloud Chamber experienced layoffs, and creative director Kelley Gilmore left her position. This turbulent development cycle has led fans to ask one question: Can this sequel meet their sky-high expectations?

A BioShock to the System

Following these shake-ups, Rod Fergusson stepped in to oversee the beloved franchise. As Cloud Chamber dealt with this behind-the-scenes drama, publisher Take-Two Interactive reassured fans and publicly expressed confidence in Bioshock 4. Take-Two president Karl Slatoff discussed the project in a recent financial conference, stressing that it remains on track.

According to Slatoff, the game would propel the franchise to the next level, emphasizing that the company considers BioShock as its cornerstone property. Furthermore, fans have praised the series for its profound philosophical questions and stunning settings. With that, what kind of mind-bending world and moral dilemmas will Cloud Chamber create this time?

The Unseen Horror of Game Development

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also discussed the development of BioShock 4, publicly confirming it’s definitely going to come out. A Bloomberg report, released earlier this year, clashes with these corporate assurances. This internal report indicated that a particular area of the game’s narrative needed improvement and required a significant revamp. Additionally, a planned remake of the original BioShock was revealed but was cancelled amidst the Cloud Chamber’s restructuring. It has been 5 years since any updates were given.

Outside of a single announcement tweet, the continued silence regarding its development is deafening. Reports have consistently pointed to troubled production as the reason for the next installment’s delay, revealing that maintaining optimism about an imminent reveal was difficult. Who knows how long fans have to wait before they even catch a glimpse of this mysterious new city or perhaps a terrifying new lighthouse? For Slatoff, Bioshock 4 is shaping up to be a worthy sequel, reassuring fans that the project isn’t simply lost at sea.
