5 Best Multiplayer games for Christmas

Christmas Cheer: 5 Great Multiplayer Games for the Family to Play This Holiday Season

When the Christmas celebrations are winding down, you might want to all gather around for family time. However, you’ve already watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” and the entire “The Santa Clause” trilogy a dozen times each this year. If you’re getting a bit tired of the same Christmas movies over and over, perhaps you’d like to hook up the game system and play some games together. Here are five games that make for some great couch multiplayer for the holidays.

1. Mario Kart World

If someone has a Nintendo Switch 2, hook it up and play Mario Kart World. Up to four players can play local multiplayer on a singles system – however, if you’re lucky enough to have more than one Switch 2 in the house, more people can hook up with wireless play. Either way, you can race each other in the Grand Prix and new Knockout Mode, or you can duke it out in the Battle Modes. Maybe a perfect idea for settling Christmas disputes?

2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

If no one has a Switch 2 yet, fear not. You can still play the awesome Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has more Battle Modes than Mario Kart World and more tracks. In many ways, Mario Kart World is the better game, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has plenty to offer that World doesn’t have, including a Christmas-themed track in the Booster Course Pass DLC. It’s a great way to get in the holiday mood.

3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Do you have eight people clamoring to beat each other up over the holiday stress? Fear not – put on Super Smash Bros. and watch their anger turn into laughter. With a massive roster and numerous creative stages, this game is the perfect local multiplayer experience. My local game group plays this and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe all the time and we always laugh when we beat each other.

4. Jackbox Party Packs

No Switch? No problem! Jackbox Party Packs are available for all major systems, plus Steam. Get your friends to sign in on their phones, and you can play wacky games of trivia, lying, murder mysteries, and more. No matter which Jackbox Party Pack you pull out, you’re guaranteed to have a good time. Even your non-gamer friends might want to join in.

5. Super Mario Party Jamboree

The Mario Party series brilliantly combines board games with chaotic minigames. If some of your family members are grumbling about wanting to play board games instead of video games, Super Mario Party Jamboree might pacify them. With over 100 minigames and a large roster of playable characters, this game is perfect for some holiday mayhem.

Play Some Video Games For Christmas!

Video games are becoming a new holiday tradition, so why don’t you introduce your family to some video games this holiday season? It might be the perfect way to perk up your Christmas when you’re all full of turkey and the family is starting to get on each other’s nerves. Gaming can help your family to remember why they do love each other after all.
