Dispatch Fans Accuse Wuthering Waves of “Genuine Bribery”
Fans of the point-and-click adventure game Dispatch aren’t happy with Gacha-style RPG Wuthering Waves winning the Players’ Voice Award at The Game Awards. Dispatch fans are calling for a ban on Gacha games, due to the apparent incentivization of in-game reward should a Gacha game win a major award. Reddit user La_Volpa said, “Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact are both Gacha-style games, and those developers tend to promise free pulls in exchange for the vote and the win. It’s genuine bribery.”
At last week’s Game Awards, Dispatch and Wuthering Waves were nominated for Players’ Voice, along with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Genshin Impact and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Dispatch was also nominated for Best Debut Independent Game but lost to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Dispatch Fans Are Not Alone
A similar sentiment was unsurprisingly felt by Sonic fans in 2022, as Sonic Frontiers lost to Genshin Impact in the Players’ Voice category at The Game Awards. Sonic fans spewed their trademark toxicity towards Genshin Impact fans, added with racism and accusations of pedophilia. Game Awards host Geoff Keighley said that after removing the bot votes from the overall tally, Sonic Frontiers fell behind.
