Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong Bananza: The Switch 2’s Undisputed Best-Seller and Must-Play Adventure

Donkey Kong Bananza features the loveable ape Donkey Kong and his young friend Pauline in their quest to recover stolen banana-shaped diamonds from a rival group of apes. It has sandbox-like levels where you complete objectives, battle enemies, and collect objects. The terrain is changeable, too; the player can destroy most terrain to uncover goodies beneath.

New DLC

And that is basically the story here. Donkey Kong Bananza recently dropped some brand new DLC (downloadable content). It is back on top of the Switch 2 eShop chart, and it’s no wonder. We all grew up with the classic Donkey Kong character–and this new DLC ups the nostalgia factor. The DLC is called DK Island and Emerald Rush. It is set on Donkey’s very own island as a nod to those long-time fans. Donkey Kong Bananza briefly fell off the number one spot due to Hollow Knight: Silksong, but the recently released DLC has Donkey Kong Bananza right back on top.

Emerald Rush Mode

When playing Emerald Rush, the player is recruited to the ranks of Void Co. and must break and collect emerald ore. You are able to choose from a multitude of goodies. This mode is available with some levels in the base game, but it is available on DK Island. Once you complete the trials, you will unlock these goodies, such as costumes.

Rogue-Mode

The new DLC is essentially what’s called a “rogue mode.” You must mine the island for emeralds and try to accumulate as many as possible while being timed. There are unlockables and goodies, but that’s basically the whole game. Donkey Kong Bananza is a 3-D platformer game and can be played in both single and multiplayer modes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land was selling a more in-depth DLC for $20 last month, so some fans argue that this DLC isn’t enough. The Donkey Kong Bananza game comes in at a whopping $90, with the base game being $70 and the DLC being $20, so there is some concern that you aren’t getting enough bang for your buck. But people are buying it, and it’s outselling Silksong. So, these numbers don’t lie.

And if you’re still not sold on Donkey Kong Bananza yet, you can play a demo at the eShop for only $19.99.
