A Live-Action Elden Ring Movie From A24 And Alex Garland Is In The Works
Elden Ring players and action role-playing game enthusiasts get goosebumps over the news that Alex Garland will be directing the Elden Ring movie. It’s one thing to play a game where you control the hero to change the course of a virtual world, and it’s another to see the world you played come to life on the big screen. This great moment of gaming to movie evolution all began with FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, who started everything with Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Has the Perfect Director
Elden Ring was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, along with worldbuilding, and got its fantasy from the great mind of the great writer George R. R. Martin. Its release was met with tremendous success in February 2022 on PlayStation 4, 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Series X/S. Not only those but we are being promised to be able to play it on the Nintendo Switch 2, which will be releasing soon.
The game centers around the chance to become the next Elden Lord in a place called the Lands Between. In starting out the game, it can be seen in a third-person perspective after customizing your character. Upon entering the world, dozens of quests await you in the open world where you are free to roam the six main areas. This game has tons of added rewards, including weapons, magical spells, character conversations, challenges, and more. One of the added modes players enjoy is a multiplayer mode where gamers can join forces, testing their metal in player vs. player combat, or joining forces to take down bosses they otherwise wouldn’t be able to handle on their own.
A Great Mix of Magic
The game’s director, Miyazaki, strived to make Elden Ring a game as if taking Dark Souls with the admiring touch of Martin’s fantasy touch. Dark Souls was released in 2011 and had two sequels. The game’s magic and third-party type play paved the way to making Elden Ring. That and adding Martin’s writing touch makes Elden Ring one of a kind. Martin is a 76-year-old American author, television writer, and producer. Some of his most popular works are A Song of Ice and Fire, the television series Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and Wild Cards. All his works have earned him the title of the modern-day American Tolkien.
You take all that creative power and add the new director of Garland in the mix, you have the making of a hit. Garland has a hand in making games, movies, and his own novels. He has written The Beach and Danny Boyle. Some of his films have been 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go, and Dredd. He has also had experience with video games such as Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and DmC; Devil May Cry.
From Rumor to Fact
The rumor of this coming to pass has been circulating for months, and the statement from A24 made it official. If you are wondering if such an endeavor would be successful, take a look at the movie Warfare. That’s an A24 Iraq war movie directed by Mendoza, who also had Martin, who helped write some of it. In its first month, it grossed over $32 million.
Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, and this announcement is perfectly timed with a new Elden Ring spin-off game called Ring Nightreign, which is going to be released on May 30th. Nightreign will be playable on the PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as the Xbox One and Series X/S.
Will it Work?
Elden Ring is building to keep going from expansions, spin-offs, and now an upcoming big-screen adaptation. It seems that with every one of these big talents working together, nothing can go wrong.
