Celebrated Movies John Wick and Saw Greenlit For AAA Game, Lionsgate Confirms
There is good news for gamers and movie buffs alike. “John Wick” and “SAW” may receive AAA video game adaptations, according to Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson. During a call detailing Lionsgate’s earnings for Q2 2026, Fogelson said that the studio will announce AAA gaming initiatives soon. Tech4Gamers broke the news on December 31, 2025.
Fogelson added that the movie studio has actively observed increased interest, as well as increased opportunities to adapt its gaming franchise. So far, Fogelson stated that Lionsgate’s progress is going as scheduled.
The Concept of a John Wick Game
According to Michael Harradence of PlayStation Universe, news of a AAA game based on the “John Wick” film series has been floating around since 2023, when then-CEO of Lionsgate Joe Drake said that the company will move forward with the franchise, including the AAA video game scene and beyond, prior to the release of the “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina,” released in 2025.
As of writing, no word is out regarding the studio responsible for developing the John Wick video game adaptation, but we can expect news of the studio in the near future. Shahmeer Sarfaraz of Tech4Gamers wrote that fans can expect a big budget title that’s more in depth than the 2019 game John Wick Hex, developed by Bithell Games. The game, which had Mixed reviews, is no longer available on Steam, and the game was delisted from the platform in July 2025.
John Wick Hex was a strategy game that served as a prequel to the movies. Trumann Tu of GameRant wrote, “most fans would likely prefer a game that captures the action in the same vein as games like SlopClap’s Sifu or one that leans into Wick being a former hitman like IO Interactive’s Hitman series of games.”
A Game to Match Fan Demands

According to Grant Taylor-Hill of Insider Gaming, fans of the gun-fu film franchise have requested a decent game to match the film’s high-octane nature. Taylor-Hill wrote, “The nature of the film franchise almost writes itself as a video game, but despite a couple of low-budget titles, nothing has really emerged in the space.”
“John Wick” and “SAW” are not the only IPs that may get video game adaptations. According to Sarfaraz, Lionsgate also mentioned other IPs, which may include “The Hunger Games” franchise, among others. The “SAW” series of movies has not received a video game adaptation since SAW II: Flesh and Blood, released in 2010.
“John Wick” star Keanu Reeves is no stranger to lending his voice to video games. He is best known as Johnny Silverhand from CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, released in 2020. The game currently has Very Positive reviews on Steam, after a tumultuous launch.
About the Movies
To those unfamiliar with the John Wick series of movies, the first movie, released in 2014, is about the titular ex-hitman who single-handedly attempts to take down the criminal underworld after thugs kill his puppy Daisy, a posthumous gift from his wife Helen who passed away from cancer.
Other actors who appeared throughout the movies and spin-offs include the late Lance Reddick, Willem Dafoe, Common, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, Donnie Yen and Norman Reedus.
The movie was originally titled “Scorn” but Keanu Reeves told people he was working on a movie titled “John Wick,” so director Derek Kolstad changed the movie’s title. The series of movies share a similar premise with the 2022 anime Lycoris Recoil.
The character John Wick has appeared in Fortnite as part of a collaboration with Epic Games. There is also a VR game set in the “John Wick” universe titled John Wick Chronicles, released in 2017.
