Gaming’s Greatest Lightsaber Rip-Offs: The Saber Strikes Back
Lightsaber rip-offs are a dime a dozen. But, the following games find fresh ways to make an old stand-by brand spanking new again. And Star Wars has to be one of the most iconic films and video games out there. That being said, lightsabers themselves are a timeless icon. So, it’s no wonder so many games out there are ripping off those iconic glowing blades. But, these aren’t lightsabers! They are lightsaber rip-offs done in style. They may not be genuine, but these glowing blades in the following games definitely made them cooler and a whole lot more fun.
Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham City is definitely the first stop for our psuedo-sabers. The lightsaber rip-offs seen in Batman: Arkham City are more of an Easter Egg and not a playable weapon. You can find the saber tucked into a circuit box with weapons on Deadshot’s side mission “Shot in the Dark.”
Starcraft 2: Campaign Collection

Starcraft II has their own version of The Force with something called “psionics.” This is lightsaber rip-offs at an epic level. The psionics are paranormal powers that are controlled by willpower. These psionic powers are basically the equivalent of Jedi Mind Tricks. They have a cool lightsaber-esque weapon, too, called a “psi-blade.”
Legacy Of Kain: Defiance
The Legacy of Kain pulls out a neat trick with a ghostly twist on their lightsaber rip-offs. The main character is a vampire who has been relegated to the Lake of the Dead. He is then gifted a wraith blade by the gods, which is basically a ghost blade. It has some interesting powers, too: it can take on elemental forms and adapt to combat scenarios and puzzles.
Silent Hill 3

Silent Hill 3 is loaded with unlockables and lightsaber rip-offs! It unveiled a Princess Heart costume, as well as some unique weapons including the Beam Saber. To unlock it, you must kill enemies with primarily melee weapons at the end of your first run. This laser sword comes in Yoda-green. It’s also particularly lethal. One of the best melee weapons by far. Plus, once you get a ten-star rank, the length of the saber doubles! However, beware, this goodie is difficult to get.
Dead Rising 2
A Laser Sword originally appeared in the first Dead Rising and it was the weapon’s most powerful game, but it was a difficult weapon to obtain. You had to play through Infinity mode to obtain the weapon. Thankfully, this time Dead Rising 2 kept the laser sword, but made it much easier and more convenient to obtain this time. You just need a flashlight and gems. You can find both of them in the Royal Flush Plaza which is the first location outside the safe house. Since it’s easily found near the safe house, this makes it a great resource for any player.
There are many more games with faux lightsabers, but this covers a few of them. Try them out and see what you think: is the Force with these games?
