Livestreaming Killed the Youtube Star: YouTube’s No Longer #1 With Livestreams

So, apparently, there is a new site called Kick.com. It is taking over and leaving our beloved YouTube in the dust when it comes to livestreaming. It makes sense. Facebook left Myspace in the dust–and then X left Twitter in the dust. So, it’s time for a generation of YouTubers to end. My son is from Generation YouTube, so I hadn’t even heard of this, but I went over to check out Kick.com–and bookmark it–so I can start the next fad along with my son.

Numbers Fading with New Options

Yep. It looks like people are jumping ship and heading to sites like TikTok and the aforementioned Kick.com. Insider Gaming notes, “YouTube Live is suffering a comedown amid rising competition across the streaming space.” TikTok offers some relief with short clips, but as a gaming writer, what am I looking for?

You Are My Obsession

I am more than ready to give YouTube the boot for the right obsession. They are losing their audience because of people out there competing while they are still full of all the ads. And I’m not just being a fickle fan. The video-sharing company is offering a “Lite” version now, where they partially remove the advertisements, but most customers are unhappy about paying and additionally getting ads, even though, at a reduced price, you receive no ads on videos like gaming livestreams. It’s still not a great solution because you’re paying as a gamer and…

No Ads!

While there are still ads on TikTok, I found out that there are currently no advertisements on Kick.com. It seems to be a site catered to gamers, too. The app is nicely made, so you are never without it–just like YouTube. I have found the navigability of the site is good, too.

It’s the Economy

Most people just purely cite the economy as the downfall of YouTube. The opportunity isn’t the same as it used to be for YouTubers. The challengers YouTubers face along with the rising costs of everything (like the price of the Xbox) makes equipment harder to come by and makes the job more of a challenge because more people have access to the technology they were using and now the market is more competitive. “YouTuber” used to be the job on everyone’s lips, but with as fast as times are changing (technology and otherwise), people’s ideas for what is popular is changing.

They are getting bored with the same ho-hum clips with too many ads crammed in, interrupting their groove. My son got tired of that, too.

Time Will Tell

Time will tell whether Kick.com will give us a kickstart into our gaming dreams. But, it just might get us focused back on the creative product rather than being frustrated because of paying just for reduced ads. Livestreaming on sites like Twitch gives gamers outlets that they wouldn’t have had before. So, it’s time to check out some new platforms if you’re stuck in the YouTube/Facebook/X Bermuda Triangle.
