Stranger Than Heaven – The New Name for Project Century

Stranger Than Heaven was one of the many surprising reveals at Summer Game Fest. The latest project by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios has been called Project Century as its working title, but Summer Game Fest revealed that it has changed its name to Stranger Than Heaven.

The Stranger Than Heaven Trailer

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the makers of the Like a Dragon series, have put together a banger trailer that promises an epic story. While the game was supposed to take place in 1915 when it was called Project Century, this trailer takes place in 1943. Perhaps there will be different story sections that take place in different years.

The trailer begins with the fedoraed protagonist, Mako Daito, hanging out in a nightclub before slipping out into the streets and smoking a cigarette. As the trailer progresses, we see him involved in various fistfights as the nightclub singer belts out a sultry song. At the end, he gets called a “Jap,” before being asked “What are you then?” and he responds, “I’ve been asking myself the same thing.”

Is This a Beat-Em-Up?

Given that we see Daito engaged in various street fights, it looks like this game will feature similar beat-em-up action to the Like a Dragon games. We also see a choice where the options are “Show him mercy” and “Show him no mercy,” indicating that the game might have a morality system. Perhaps there will be multiple story branches to explore.

Conclusion

The Stranger Than Heaven trailer oozes atmosphere and mystique. Even though it doesn’t reveal much about the actual story or gameplay, it offers enough intrigue to get players interested in the game. The strong reputation RGG Studios has will definitely build up hype for this game. There is no release date as of now, so gamers will just have to sit back, study the trailer for clues, and wait patiently.
