Nintendo Music Launches with 24 Classic Soundtracks

Nintendo Music has officially launched. It is often difficult to find video game themes and scores on common music streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. There are alternate versions uploaded by other people, but rarely an official track for the game. Nintendo, located in Washington, admittedly could have used those platforms to release the official music, but they opted for their own platform instead. For subscribing Nintendo Switch Online members, the soundtracks for a lot of games are now available on Nintendo Music.

Nintendo Music Brings Officially Licensed Gaming Songs to Streaming

Nintendo Music officially launched on October 31, bringing 23 incredible soundtracks from all eras of Nintendo gaming to people’s phones. That number has since been upped to 24 and the expectation is that even more will come down the line. Any person who has an active NSO subscription, be it a family membership or individual, and with or without the expansion, can download the app on their mobile devices.

The app pairs with your Nintendo account and can suggest music based on that. If you’ve been playing a lot of Mario games, the app might suggest one of its soundtracks for you to listen to. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the hit award-winning game sidescrolling platformer from 2023, was the latest soundtrack to hit the app. Per Nintendo’s official X account, there are more additions scheduled for “next week” and will continue to be added “from time to time.”

Nintendo Music currently has, thanks to the inclusion of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, 24 games available to stream the soundtrack. These range from old and new:

  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder
  • Breath of the Wild
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Pikmin 4
  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Splatoon 3
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Kirby Star Allies
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Wii Channels
  • Tomodochi Collection
  • nintendogs
  • Metroid Prime
  • Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Star Fox 64
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Kirby’s Dream Land
  • Dr. Mario
  • Metroid
  • Metroid (Famicom Disk System)
  • Super Mario Bros.

Music from the NES era all the way through the Nintendo Switch era is available. That also, incredibly, includes the menu music from the Nintendo Wii. The Mii Plaza music and so much more can be streamed as well as songs from some of the best games of all time. Nintendo has such a tremendous backlog of video games with excellent soundtracks that it’s worth looking into the app just in case some of them get added in the near future.

In Conclusion

It would have been simpler and perhaps more useful for Nintendo to partner with Apple Music or Spotify to release the music they have. However, this app is better than nothing. It provides official, licensed, and high-quality versions of songs gamers have loved for decades. With more on the way, the app is poised to become a favorite for music lovers and video game enthusiasts alike.
