Nintendo Switch 2 is coming, and try to tone down the excitement. Your legs would probably fall off if you had to keep walking until you found a home where they didn’t know the word Nintendo. They have sold billions of games and hundreds of millions of consoles all over the globe. Believe it or not, Nintendo began humbly back in 1889 and grew from manufacturing playing cards to when Donkey Kong hit in 1981. Then the Nintendo Entertainment System with Super Mario Brother came next in 1985. Nintendo’s evolution has taken us all the way to the Nintendo Switch 2, and here is the latest.
World Changer Nintendo Switch 2
After years of hearing rumors and leaks, leaving tons of unanswered questions, we can finally put some suspicions to rest. Nintendo has finally removed the cork on the Nintendo Switch 2 bottle, which is set to be released this year.
A full showcase of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be on April 2nd, but until then, thanks to a video, we have some details. First glance shows a comparison between the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2, which both look very similar. The design is very much the same as the original layout, retaining the same hybrid handheld gaming console and being able to dock to work on a TV.
Size Does Matter
One obvious difference is the Nintendo Switch 2’s size compared to its predecessor. The Nintendo Switch 2 is larger. Although the video does not give specifics, it does show a larger screen compared to the Nintendo Switch’s original LCD screen, which is 6.2 inches. While the Nintendo Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch screen and the OLED has a 7-inch OLED screen, the Switch 2 is going to be bigger.
Another similarity is that they both will have and do have detachable Joy-Con controllers, which allow both systems to be played in gamers’ hands in a handheld mode and also playable on a television. There have been many thoughts and rumors about the name, but with the video, Nintendo has announced that it will be called the Nintendo Switch 2. As with the name, it will be just like its predecessor, coming as a handheld device with detachable controllers and a TV docking unit.
Backward Compatibility and Joy-Cons
We have more good gaming news for Nintendo Switch 2 fans. The video shows us a glimpse at a new Mario Kart game. This Mario Kart game looks to be the gaming hood to headline the console. From the video, the game looks polished and smooth, so it is probably in the final stages of development. The Nintendo Switch 2 will also be backward compatible with Nintendo Switch games.
More good news. It’s no secret that the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons were full of problems, mostly due to unresolvable drifting. The Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons are not just to be used as regular controllers. They will also have a mouse-like function. That might be one of the coolest features! However, we don’t know exactly what that cool feature is until the release.
More Features and Cost
Let’s get to what the video confirms. The Joy-Cons and the Nintendo Switch 2 kickstand will be magnetic. The right Joy-Con will have a new “C” button. It will also come with an additional USB-C port at the top of the console. There will be new buttons on the back of the controllers. The kickstand isn’t like the single release clip but a more prominent “U” shape extending close to the system’s bottom and sides.
Another fact that we do not have as yet is the price. When the Nintendo Switch originally came out on March 3rd, 2017, it was $299.99 in the United States. The price varied depending on region and demand. Nintendo has not given a price on the Nintendo Switch 2 yet, but TechRadar Gaming has predicted that the Switch 2 will cost around $399.99.
It’s About Timing
This is the first taste we have of the Nintendo Switch 2. We have been informed that it will be released this year, but no date has been given. Keeping tradition means it will most likely arrive just in time for the holidays. If it does come out this year, it might give them a leg up on console wars, as the next Xbox will most likely come out in 2026 or 2027. The next generation PlayStation is expected to be released in 2027.
No matter how you look at it, the world is about to change, and much depends on the Nintendo Switch 2. We have much to look forward to the full showcase on April 2nd, and let’s hope it will be everything and more. Some of the best news is everything points to the Nintendo Switch 2 being on track and arriving this year.
