The Nintendo Switch has been a monster for its franchise, but its next-generation offspring has been a long time coming. The Switch 2 has been surrounded by rumors for years as gamers eagerly wait for whispers of its coming, specifications, and games. Every supposed leak of promised specifications and promises makes it harder to wait. When Nintendo released the first Switchback worldwide in March 2017. Today, it is still going strong. For the last 41 months, the Switch has been selling out over its rivals, the PlayStation and Xbox. Despite the lack of official details, the new console is taking shape, and we do have some information.

Nintendo Has Announced That The Switch 2 Is Delayed

Nintendo has been treading carefully with the Switch 2. In late June, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, told their investors that he didn’t expect a stock shortage for the Switch 2. He also went on to say that the chip shortage that has plagued the electronic world wouldn’t be an issue. The translation is that he is predicting the Switch 2 to be a massive success on the market, which would not be a surprise given the Switch’s record.

President Of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa Endeavors To Put Fears To Rest

He went on to comment,

As a measure against resale, we believe that the most important thing is to produce a sufficient number of units to meet customer demand, and this approach has not changed since last year. Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce a sufficient amount of Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor parts, but this situation has now been resolved. We do not believe that the shortage of parts will have a significant impact on production of the successor model at this time.

Despite some of the information given, there is a lot we don’t know. We don’t even know what it is going to be called officially. We do know that it will be a hybrid handheld console like the Switch. It is also expected to make a significant power leap, though it certainly won’t compete with the console power of the PS5 or Xbox Series X.

What The Switch 2 Could Have

Recent reports suggest that it will have detachable Joy-Con controllers like its predecessor but will feature a magnetic attachment system with more buttons. We do not know how they will set or feel, nor will there be a variant Switch where the controllers are permanent like the Switch Lite. As to other features, it is suggested that it will sport an 8-inch screen with an OLED screen that includes a 4K Switch kit.

It may also support Nvidia graphics chips. Due to these speculative rumors, Nintendo has denied any information as to whether it will support them. They could have done this to squash the rumors and to keep the information about what they were working on as quiet as possible. There are some rumors about whether the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible, have a cartridge slot for games, or be strictly digital. There have also been claims that its processing power and ability will be similar to those of the PlayStation 4. There is even some word that Nintendo will be charging close to $400 or even a $500 modal one that will include greater storage space and RAM.

The Delay

Now, here is the unfortunate news. The Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed. Typically, in the past, the life span of a gaming console before its replacement is released is seven years. That puts it almost six months late as of now. The delay is going into 2025 in part due to Nintendo’s urge to endeavor to be certain that there is enough hardware needed for the Switch 2’s manufacturing. They don’t want shortages.

Nintendo has also stated that they will make an announcement before the end of the fiscal year. That may come as a blow to some, but trusting Nintendo’s approach helps. They have already forecasted to sell 13.5 million consoles in the released financial year. That is close to the entire population of Pennsylvania having a Nintendo Switch 2, and that is likely a conservative estimate for the console.
