Over the past couple of months, Nintendo has held their Direct and Treehouse presentations, providing official news for fans to ponder about. The Switch 2 launch date is June 5, 2025, which is great to know. We also got a sneak peek into the new games and features that will be coming exclusively to the Switch 2 console. Unfortunately, many gamers may have to change their plans due to the preorder delays of the Switch 2 that are occurring at the moment.

Why is Switch 2 Being Delayed?

Over the past couple of weeks, we now know that the preorders for the Switch 2 are being delayed. Why, you ask? Well, due to the tariff debacle that is going on with politics around the world, not only are people being affected in their personal lives, but the gaming industry is also feeling the negative effects. The tariffs that are being thrown around ultimately affect the prices of the Switch 2 itself and the costs it takes to ship them all around the world.

When Nintendo has to pay more for the shipment of the console we all have been waiting for, that means the price of the Switch 2 itself has the potential to increase for the consumers as well. Currently, the price for the Switch 2 (just the console itself) is set at $449.99. As Vietnam has been hit with a 46% tariff and Japanese imports have been hit with a 24% tariff, it is fair to assume that consumers may have to pay more than expected.

Which countries are being affected?

At the current moment, we know that gamers living in China, Canada, and the US are feeling the brunt of this tariff war. As these changes can happen at any moment, more countries could be joining the pool of disgruntled fans, too. The impact of President Trump’s moves in regard to tariffs could have a negative impact on neighboring and distant countries at any moment.

For gamers of every level, it is important to take care of personal living bills, food, and more. Playing video games is our way to relax, unwind, and have an environment away from real-life issues. However, it is being speculated right now that the price could go up between $500 to $700.

The initial price alone could be a bit steep for many as the economy and job markets are a bit inconsistent for fans to choose fun over essentials. What are your thoughts about the delay of the Switch 2 because of political matters that neither Nintendo nor its manufacturers can control?  Will you pre-order the Switch 2 as soon as you ca,n regardless of the political matters that are going on? Or will you wait until things get back to normal (at least as normal as it can get)?
