Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour: A New Type Of Game Manual

Nintendo Switch 2 announces specs for the new console in Welcome Tour

One of the weirdest announcements for the Nintendo Switch 2 was Welcome Tour. Over the past couple of months, Nintendo has been announcing new games, new features, and most importantly, the official release date of the Switch 2 console. Let’s go back to the games, though, for a second. Nintendo has officially announced that they are releasing Welcome Tour with the upcoming Switch 2. Everything seems to be going more and more digital and behind paywalls, which is the Switch 2 new game manual that will cost to play.

The Welcome Tour game is essentially taking over for the text and visuals we are used to seeing on how to operate a new Nintendo console and turning it into a game. It’s imperative to know where certain settings are located for accessibility (such as volume, display, button, screen sensitivities, text size, and more), where the buttons are, and what their functions are (for those that are new to the console, this may be essential to you).

You know the bare basics that all gamers should know about the game console that they (or somebody that spent a good amount of money on). While it seems like a quirky new way to get players of all levels and ages to play a game to learn about their new console, how many will be willing to pay for this? While there is no price attached to this game (yet), let’s think hypothetically for a moment.

At best, the Welcome Tour should cost no more than $0.99, and that is it. Anything more than that seems outrageous, and gamers who may need a game manual will end up going to their favorite Twitch streamer or YouTuber and learn the manual that way.

Final Thoughts

What are your thoughts on this new type of game manual? Does it seem like an amazing fun idea that we may not have thought we even wanted or needed? Is it an overkill idea that we don’t need? Do you even read the manuals of games before you start playing them, or do you dive in headfirst, oblivious to everything and hoping to figure out how it all works through trial and error later?

This could be an overnight success we never seen coming, or it could be a complete disaster that Nintendo might have to take back to the drawing board (or completely scrap it and act like it doesn’t even exist. We will see how this all goes when the Switch 2 is released on June 5th, 2025.
