One of my Favorite childhood games was Tomodachi Life. I loved watching the people running around doing the weirdest, best things I could ever imagine. Yes, little buddy, that whole stack of pancakes was definitely gifted in your dreams. Sure, creation with no eyes, if you want a pair of glasses, I shall get you some posthaste! From the start to the end, Tomodachi Life was a treat that never stopped giving. So, to hear that the Nintendo Switch 2 release will carry on its mortal soul? One could not be happier. Let’s break it down, and before the giant in the window figures out the door. Please.
Keeping it True
Considering the state of the remakes and sequels right now, the fact that this game promises to have the same style and quirkiness that defined the first game is a massive relief, with the same sort of text-to-speech voices and premise, with it all playing out on an island at sea, building relationships, destroying relationships, and even as shown in a picture the classic rap battle format. Another beloved feature that we know about returning is the dream sequence with a giant appearing in the window of a Mii and asking, “You rang?” No. No, I did not giant!
If That’s the Case, What’s New?
For starters, Tomodachi Life 2 has given its Mi’s ears! The change is seamless enough that it might cause you to do a double-take when you hear it. It’s a small improvement but a nice tie-in to stand out. Another change within the design is the addition of deeper facial customization with stronger definitions and hairstyles to match it, much akin to Miitopia. Unlike that game, though, Mii’s are seen to have makeup and wigs over the top.
There is a rumor worth noting that same-sex relationships are a planned feature in the game, as one of the Mii’s has a daydream of another giant female Mil, and it is wondered if this is a crush. Though it is not an official confirmation, it is worth remembering that the developers themselves apologized for the lack of LGBT in the first game and did promise to fix that in the next game, since they could not patch it in the first.
With All That Said and Done
Even though there’s so much left unknown about Tomodachi Life 2: Living the Dream, fans are hyped for the sequel in massive waves all over the United States and even more so in Japan. It can’t be a surprise seeing as this series has sparked so much creativity and joy seen through countless you tube shorts and memes that the wacky format lends into perfectly.
The last game was published in 2013, at least outside of Japan, only adding fuel to the fire. It seems so, seeing as the game is backwards compatible, making it easier to get for the masses. I know I can’t wait to find out what new stories will play out as I’m busy living the dream.
