No Man’s Sky Demonstrates Light No Fire Tech

No Man's Sky Mass Effect

No Man’s Sky has recently gotten yet another massive overhaul. The immense labor of love from Hello Games has now entered a new era with the 5.0 update called Worlds Part I. The incredible technology being used within it will also be seen in the much-anticipated Light No Fire.

While future players around the world wait for more news about that game, they’ll be able to use Worlds Part I to get a feel of what they should expect. Here’s what is known about the project and just how far No Man’s Sky has come since its turbulent launch.

All About Light No Fire

Light No Fire was first announced at The Game Awards in 2023. Sean Murray, the founder of Hello Games, took to the big stage to show just what everyone can expect from the studio’s next giant game. Unlike No Man’s Sky, it will take place on one planet. It’s a fantasy-based game set on a procedural and unexplored planet similar to Earth. While the plot of the game hasn’t been revealed, what has been shown gives a peek at the immense amount of exploration that everyone is expecting from the title. Players will be able to explore the land, sea, and sky thanks to a variety of mounts at tools that will be at their disposal.

In an interview with video game journalist Geoff Keighley, Murray expressed his excitement for the upcoming game and called it the first real open-world game. He said the planet on which the game will be based will be a place where people can experience their adventurous virtual lives together. This is shown in the trailer since groups of players can be seen swimming, flying, and building together. Just like No Man’s Sky, he expects the game to be something that can be updated for a decade to come after its release.

The Evolution of No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky was initially released on August 9, 2016. Many remember just what a troublesome time that was for the game and its developers since players around the world were disappointed with the product. On launch, the game felt broken and dull.

Unlike the game we have today, it lacked a variety of biomes, creatures, and gameplay. On the whole, the game was not what fans had expected and hoped for. From then, those at Hello Games were dedicated to fixing and revitalizing the game to turn that disappointment into awe. What they ended up accomplishing was a redemption arc for the video game history books.

Throughout the eight years since the game’s launch, it has seen more than 200 patches and updates. Including Worlds Part I, there have been about two dozen named updates, which all brought their own brand-new content to the game.

The first of the named updates was the Foundation Update. It brought different game modes, farming, freighters, and a lot more. From there, the game just kept seeing more and more improvements. What makes these updates even more amazing is that they have all been free of charge. Now, it may seem like an entirely different game since launch, and Hello Games doesn’t seem to be finished just yet.

Bringing Future Tech to the Past

With Worlds Part I, we are seeing technology used in Light No Fire being brought to No Man’s Sky. This technology revolves around the environment players get to explore. In a recently released video about the update, Murray stated that it refreshes the universe within the game. Players now get to discover a wider variety of flora and fauna. The climate has become more dynamic with oceans and clouds changing with the weather. Weather patterns themselves have gotten improvements as well, meaning players will now experience unique wind patterns, rolling fog, and intense conditions like blizzards.

The update also brings along with it new planets and a more diverse range of creatures that inhabit the universe. Murray has stated that the goal of Worlds Part I is to make the game feel more alive. Using the technology that Hello Games has now definitely helps with that feat since there have been incredible improvements to existing technology along with the creation of all new technologies since 2016. Since this update gives players a small taste of what is to come in Light No Fire, hype for the open-world fantasy game will likely only build. One can only hope that the world sees an official release date soon.
