Overwatch 2 recently released an official trailer for Season 12: New Frontiers. The season will release on August 20 and bring a ton of new content and changes. A new Support Hero, Juno, is joining the Overwatch 2 Roster. There is a brand-new game mode and map, a complete rank reset, and a ton of new exciting skins inspired by Egyptian Mythology.
New Support Hero: Juno
Juno was made available to play during two weeks of Season 11 of Overwatch 2 where players got used to how her ability works. She is a new Support Hero that brings new and interesting abilities to the Sandbox. She has intrinsic ability, which allows her to double jump and hover. She also has a burst rifle which deals damage to enemies as well as heals allies. Her other abilities include:
- Pulsar Torpedoes: Juno fires homing projectiles that seek out nearby allies and enemies. These can be locked on and heal allies while damaging enemies.
- Glide Boost: Juno has a movement ability allowing her to glide horizontally with increased movement speed.
- Hyper Ring: Juno creates a ring that increases the movement speed of allies that pass through it.
- Orbital Ray (Ultimate): Juno calls down a beam that travels, healing allies and increasing their damage.
New Game Mode: Clash
Clash is a new game mode that will be making its debut in Season 12 of Overwatch 2. It is an objective-based mode that has five objectives named from A to E. These objectives are placed in a linear manner, where objective C is placed at the center of the map. When a team captures an objective, they are awarded a point. The goal of this game is to obtain 5 points. Whichever team obtains 5 points wins the match.
There is also a twist in Clash, where an enemy team can also win a match by capturing the objective closest to the enemy spawn. It does not matter how many points either team has, if the closest objective to enemy spawn is captured the team wins. The trailer showcased two maps that will be present for this game mode. Hanaoka which is a beautiful Japanese-themed map and the Throne of Anubis which takes place in Egypt and is heavily inspired by Egyptian Mythology.
New Skins
Overwatch 2 showcased a lot of skins most notable of which is the Mythic skin for Reaper called Anubis Reaper. This skin is a part of the seasonal battle pass and is highly customizable. Other battle pass skins were also featured which included a skin for Mercy, Doomfist, Ashe, Illari, and Sigma. Other than that, various shop skins were also showcased.
These include a skin for Echo and another skin for Mercy, which follow the Egyptian Mythology theme. Other skins that do not follow these themes include a skin for Dva, Genji, Pharah, Kiriko, Mercy, and Soldier:76. At the end of the trailer, there was also a tease for Warcraft crossover skins.
Competitive Rank Reset & Other Changes
Starting Season 12, there will be a complete Rank Reset in Overwatch 2 Competitive. All players will start from the beginner rank and make their way up. It will not matter what rank they had in the previous season they all will start from Bronze. New Hero Mastery Missions have also been added for Pharah and Zarya. These are short Hero challenges present in the game, allowing players to enhance their skills with their favorite heroes. Overwatch 2 Anniversary event was also teased, which will be coming later in the season. This will return with game modes like Mirrorwatch and April Fools.
