All About the Cool Perception Bobblehead in Fallout 4

The Perception Bobblehead is one of several miscellaneous items players can acquire in Fallout 4. There are many different bobbleheads scattered across the Commonwealth, some requiring effort to discover. In-universe, these bobbleheads were promotional items distributed by the Vault-Tec corporation. For in-game purposes, they confer excellent benefits to the player. This guide will cover what the Perception Bobblehead offers and how the player can obtain it.

What the Perception Bobblehead Does

Like the other members of the bobblehead series, the Perception Bobblehead grants the player a permanent stat boost. As inferred by its name, it raises Perception by 1 point. Perception is one of the basic stats as part of Fallout 4’s SPECIAL system and functions differently in the game compared to previous Fallout titles. The stat primarily governs the player’s accuracy when using the V.A.T.S. system. Each point of Perception accumulated will increase accuracy when using V.A.T.S. by roughly 3%. Bear in mind that your V.A.T.S. accuracy will never exceed 95% to ensure some level of randomness. Perception also enhances your lockpicking and pickpocketing skills, albeit through perks rather than the stat itself.

Where to Find the Perception Bobblehead

The Perception Bobblehead is likely the first of its family that players will uncover. The figurine will be found inside the Museum of Freedom in Concord. Concord is located just southeast of Sanctuary, the game’s starting point. The Museum of Freedom can be explored early in a playthrough via the quest “When Freedom Calls.” This is the beginning of the Minutemen sequence of quests that will automatically trigger when the player first enters Concord. After searching the area, you will encounter a group of raiders amid a gunfight at the Museum with a man on the balcony.

“When Freedom Calls” formally begins once these raiders have been dispatched. The man on the balcony will beckon you and request you retrieve a laser musket nearby on the ground. Near it are some fusion cells used for ammunition. While intended to be utilized as part of the quest, it is not required for the player to use the musket. Should you wish to preserve its condition as well as the ammo, you may do so.

Once the player is inside the Museum of Freedom, they must deal with another group of enemies raiding the location. This should not be a troublesome task as this is still the early stages of the game but take heed that shots will be fired in all directions. Pick off any pesky raiders above you on the balconies while coursing your way upwards. Once you climb a set of stairs and are on the upper floor, more enemies will crop up. Eliminate them and travel to a room at the end of the hallway near the front of the museum. With the raiders dispatched, you can now introduce yourself to potential ally Preston Garvey, leader of the Minutemen.

The Perception Bobblehead is found in the room where the player first meets Preston. It is located on a desk beside a busted terminal. To give a further visual guide: a hunched-over man is seated on the ground in front of the desk. A copy of RobCo Fun containing the Atomic Command holotape game can be retrieved from this same room. It will be found being used as a level under a desk with an active terminal on top of it. Be sure to inspect every nook and cranny of the Museum for any lingering rewards before continuing “When Freedom Calls” and getting access to your first set of power armor.

In Conclusion

Compared to some of its brethren, the Perception Bobblehead is relatively straightforward to obtain. It is a worthwhile item to seek out; even if the player has maxed out their Perception stat, the bobblehead will push them over the limit. The Perception Bobblehead has appeared in other media, including a card in Magic: The Gathering. A real-life bobblehead based on the in-game figure was also once sold in the Bethesda Store. The Perception Bobblehead is a unique item with an advantageous effect that every player should stock in their inventory.
