In today’s Pokemon Direct, we are introduced to a new type of Pokemon game coming to the Switch and Mobile devices. Pokemon Champions is a new multiplayer game arriving on mobile devices and the Switch. Let’s go over what the new addition has in store.
Pokemon Champions Anywhere, Anytime
Pokemon Champions is a new multiplayer game currently in development with a collaboration with GameFreak being the developer and The Pokemon Works coming as the new subsidiary. With Pokemon TCG going mobile with Pokemon TCG Pocket, it was only a matter of time before we would see Pokemon Stadium arrive in people’s hands. This new multiplayer game invites Pokemon Trainers from around the world to challenge each other in about of chaos. This will invite new balancing and ideas coming from both the game and its players. The new gameplay will allow Trainers to see how everyone will put together their teams. Everything is being kept from the original Pokemon games as The Pokemon Company states:
“This new, battle-focused game will feature familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, creating an environment conducive to rich and varied strategies for new and experienced Trainers alike”
The trailer shown off in Pokemon Direct shows trainers utilizing Mega evolutions and even utilizing Terra Transformations during battle. It is a Pokemon Trainer’s dream as now you can take your battles anywhere you want, how you want. The Pokemon Stadium successor also is announced to be able to link with Pokemon Home, allowing you to send the Pokemon you want and have over to Pokemon Champions so you have more to work with.
That being said, it sounds as if there might be rental teams trainers can use to allow them if they are new to the competitive scene. This regardless would be an interesting market for those who love the competitive scene, or just love testing their skills against others.
This will be the first time since we have seen Mega Evolutions returning to the competitive scene, since their removal in 2019. Since their removal, Trainers and the like have been looking for their Megas to return to the scene, and with Pokemon Z-A returning Megas to the games it was likely they would worm their way back. Hopefully, with the returns, Pokemon found a way to balance themselves with the others.
Pokemon Champions is said to be out with all Nintendo family systems and Mobile.
