Pokemon Legends Z-A Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 Release

Pokemon Z-A is one of the most anticipated video games of 2025, more details announced at Nintendo Direct

Fans of Pokemon have gotten a couple of recent trailers from Nintendo about gameplay and mechanics for the new Pokemon Legends Z-A, which was originally announced last year. What players were not yet sure of was whether the game would be released solely for the original Nintendo Switch, or whether the game would also get a Nintendo Switch 2 launch. That question has been answered in the April 2nd Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation, and the answer is that it will indeed get a special release.

The previous Nintendo Direct presentations gave us some basic information about what the game is going to feature. The game, based out of the Kalos region, will be set solely in Lumiose City. Trainers can catch Pokemon throughout the city, including in new wild zones that act like city parks. The day and night feature of the game will bring competition-style tournaments at nightfall to become a Rank A trainer. These battle zones are new to the franchise and will feature live-action stealth and dodge, both from Pokemon and their trainers. Additional mega evolutions have also been announced.

The special Switch 2 version of Pokemon Legends Z-A will have improved features. Enhanced framerate and resolution come with the move to the more powerful console. The Switch 2 version will come in both physical and digital form, and if you purchase the original Switch version, you can pay to update to the Switch 2 version at any time.

Final Thoughts

The new Pokemon Legends Z-A game already has plenty of hype surrounding it. Rumors and leaks have been spreading around the internet, and fans are excited to see what the game will bring. While we did not gain much new from the Switch 2 presentation, learning that it will be on the system at all is a huge plus, and the improved performance should greatly help the game succeed, and avoid some of the notorious glitches from previous Pokemon entries.
