The long-awaited and anticipated game Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will officially be released on September 3rd, 2024, and will be added to the list of PlayStation Plus games for the month of September. Quidditch Champions will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X and S. The Nintendo Switch and Xbox One will also have the game available for their systems, there are two editions of the game the Standard and Deluxe.
Hype Behind Quidditch
Harry Potter introduced this well-liked game around 20 years ago and the world of Quidditch has only grown since. Notably, the collegiate level has adopted an in-person version of the fictional game making it a real-life sporting event with many fans. Hogwarts Legacy was released last year with success in sales, but an anticipated feature was left out of the game and that was Quidditch.
Quidditch Champions is going off of the hope of building an audience on PlayStation Plus to convince people to end up spending money to buy this game in the long run. The main perk of Quidditch Champions is the customization of your avatar, the Deluxe Edition includes every house’s personal broom skin, school uniform, and crest emblem. A big change that was revealed in the gameplay trailer is catching the golden snitch is worth 30 points instead of 150 points ultimately ending the game. The goal is to reach 100 points inevitably making the game last longer than in the books or movies.

Fans of the Harry Potter franchise are definitely anticipating this release, many wonder why it took so long to make a Quidditch-focused game. Based on the gameplay trailer it is hard to determine whether this game will be a hit or a miss but one thing is for sure and that is the Harry Potter fanbase is huge. This game is a risk and is probably the reason no one made a similar game before, with a group of friends I can see this being a go-to easy game to play.
The avatar customization and career mode are enough for me to make the decision to get this game, as a Harry Potter fan this is without a doubt a big day. Hogwarts Legacy broke records with its release and while Quidditch Champions might not compare to the numbers of Hogwarts Legacy a successful release is still expected. Rule changes and making Quidditch an individual game is the best move that could have been made, the excitement from fans is clear and this could hopefully be the start of a new Quidditch franchise of games.
