How to Find Refined Quartz in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley, the extremely popular farming sim game, offers players an escape from city life where they can instead participate in various activities, from farming and fishing to mining and crafting.  One resource that players regularly seek is Refined Quartz.

This valuable material plays a pivotal role in the game’s progression, particularly in crafting quality sprinklers. In this article, I’m going to go over everything you need to know about obtaining refined quartz in Stardew Valley from what it is and how to get it.

What is Refined Quartz?

Refined Quartz in Stardew Valley is a processed form of regular Quartz. Refined Quartz is most commonly obtained through smelting regular Quartz in a Furnace. However, I have found that Ghostfish ponds can produce this when the population reaches level 9. This is a difficult thing to achieve, so smelting is easier.

While regular Quartz is primarily a mineral resource found while mining in the game’s caves, Refined Quartz is a more refined and useful material. It’s needed for crafting items like quality sprinklers, crystal paths, solar panels, and more.

Ways to Obtain Refined Quartz

There are several methods to acquire Refined Quartz.

Mining for Quartz

Mining is a primary method of obtaining regular Quartz, which can then be turned into Refined Quartz using a Furnace.

  • Regular Quartz can be found in the Mines, particularly in levels 40 to 79.
  • Once you have collected regular Quartz from mining, place it in a Furnace along with one piece of Coal as fuel. The smelting process will convert each piece of Quartz into one Refined Quartz.

Recycling

The Recycling Machine is another method to obtain Refined Quartz.

  • The recycling machine converts items like broken CDs, glasses, and other debris into useful resources. However, I would like to note, that it’s only broken CDs and glasses that can yield Refined Quartz.
  • While the exact percentages can vary, recycling items typically provides a chance to obtain Refined Quartz. The process is somewhat random, but consistently recycling these items can yield a steady supply over time.

Enemy Drops

If you’d rather fight your way through collecting this material, which I don’t recommend because they’re not a guaranteed drop, you can hunt and kill ghosts and carbon ghosts. They each have a chance to drop Refined Quartz, but it’s rare.

Efficiency Tips

Allocate specific days or time slots dedicated to finding Quartz in the Mines. Focus on levels where Quartz is abundant (levels 40 to 79) to maximize your yield per trip. Additionally, go mining when you’re having more luck. You can even increase your luck if you consume certain food items or wear a lucky ring. Check your luck in the morning and determine if it’s a good day to go mining.
