Great News – Resident Evil 7 Available to Play on iOS

Resident Evil

Fans of the Resident Evil franchise, and specifically Resident Evil 7 are in for some good news. The horror shooter released in 2017 is now coming to iOS devices. The growing power of mobile devices, and most notably of Apple devices has not gone unnoticed by game developers. Developer Capcom has recognized the vast potential for mobile games that now have begun to feature console-level titles.

News broke in early June that Capcom will launch its 2017 first-person shooter, a first for the franchise to iOS-powered devices. But not every iOS device as we shall explain. Along with mobile phones even iPads and Macs equipped with M-Series of chips. This is great news for those who want to have another go at the game that got mixed reviews when it was released. And for those new to the franchise, this might just be the way to start, especially if console and PC gaming is not your cup of tea.

What Apple Devices Exactly Can Play Resident Evil 07: Biohazard?

The first point to note is that simply any Apple device does not guarantee the playability of Resident Evil 7. Given the high-performance requirements of what is basically a console/PC game to mobile devices that are orders of magnitude smaller, means that certain technical requirements need to be met. To play on the iPhone, only the iPhone 15 Pro devices: that is the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max can play it. On iPad it is a bit different as more iPad versions can play, provided they rock the M-Series of chips that were released all the way back in 2020.

So unless you are rocking the top-end version of the latest iPhones, you will be out of luck. But on the flip side, it makes sense to play the game on a larger screen, which the iPad enables. And it in fact recommended to be played with the aid of a controller, which means the developer is trying to make it somewhat similar to couch gaming. In addition, M-Series iPads, and Macs that feature M-Series also can run this game.

Who is Resident Evil 7 iOS for?

Basically, if you are a person who is plugged into the Apple ecosystem and has a knack for gaming on the go, then this might be worth a look. However, this is not simply a ‘mobile game’. The availability of larger form factors and the integration of a controller means that this game can be played in more ‘traditional’ terms. That is of course if you want. Admittedly, Capcom is likely targeting a lot of mobile gamers: that is people whose gaming is limited to their phones and maybe iPads.

The ease of access and the ability to play on the go is certainly a selling point. The question will enough people go for it? Resident Evil games are meant for a bigger screen, and generally optimized for controllers or keyboard + mouse, so touch controls could be a challenge for some. On the other hand, hardcore gamers, particularly Resident Evil 7 fans who are just looking for a new gaming experience could go for it.

Mobile Gaming Win for iOS – Sorry Android

Obviously the news of Resident Evil 7 coming only to iOS will be a disappointment for Android users. Apple has really established itself in the mobile gaming market when it comes to non-gaming devices. Whilst Nintendo’s Switch is doing well, Android has been losing steam at least in contrast to the growing strength of Apple. Problems that affect Android are not limited to gaming and relate to other aspects of the Eco-system.

For now, this is another win for Apple. That follows its success with Resident Evil 4, which also shunned the Android ecosystem. And the growing strength of iOS relative to Android in the American market in particular is another factor that is driving game developers to push AAA games to mobile devices that have the power. And Apple devices certainly do pack it.
