Setting & Story
The story of Assassin’s Creed 2 takes place both in the modern era as well as the Renaissance era. Players follow the ancestral memories of Desmond Miles and the story directly follows that of the first game. The memories of Ezio Auditore are explored in 15th-century Italy. This era of history is highly interesting and captivating, making players greatly care about the setting they are in. Ezio starts as a charming and likable character and is a typical rebellious teen. However, as the story unfolds and players follow his character his character gets more depth. He cares greatly about his family and holds the family values close to his heart.
So when his family is murdered by the Templars, Ezio is set on a path to revenge where he must discover about the history of Assassins. He trains to be an Assassin and continues his journey of destroying the Templar Brotherhood. However, it is more than a revenge story and the game’s pacing is very well done. Ezio is guided by his allies to show respect and honor when carrying out his assassinations and follow his journey. The story also leaves open an ending that gave way to other great games in the series namely Brotherhood and Revelations.
Gameplay & Progression
Assassin’s Creed 2 takes place in the cities of Venice, Florence, and Viscany. The game gradually follows the growth of Ezio Auditore as he goes from someone unaware of the Assassin order to being a valuable member of the brotherhood. Players learn stealth mechanics like blending in the social areas. Players learn about assassination through various missions and quests. The game introduced various gameplay mechanics that later became an integral part of the later games of the franchise.
The setting of the Renaissance era in Assassin’s Creed 2 provides an excellent playground for the players, where they can utilize various environmental tools to carry out their assassination. Players will use tools that are created by Leonardo da Vinci himself. As Ezio grows in strength and knowledge, so do players grow as assassins. It is an amazing game that encapsulates everything that made Assassin’s Creed games so special.
