Risk of Rain 2 currently has one expansion called Survivors of the Void, released in 2022 and available on Steam, where it’s all about the void. New survivors, monsters, locations, and void items to use during runs. A second expansion for Risk of Rain 2 called Seekers of the Storm is coming soon, featuring more new characters, locations, and enemies.
New content will be on the way and more information is set to be shared by the developers soon. In the meantime, Risk of Rain 2 has a new update released: The Devotion Update. This update gives a sneak peek into the second expansion, featuring a new map. Additional pieces of content are also packed with the update, including an exciting crossover from another masterpiece title.
Risk of Rain 2’s New Verdant Falls
One major piece of content from the Devotion update is a new map to explore. This map is called the Verdant Falls, one of the many new maps in the upcoming Seekers of the Storm expansion. It is a divine new environment to explore with new secrets to find. Of course, its daytime version is only available for the time, while the nighttime version will appear in the expansion. The developers have released a dev diary showcasing the content from the expansion so far, including the new map. There’s plenty to explore from the new map, but there will be tons more to explore soon.
New Artifacts
The new update also adds new artifacts to the fray. Artifacts in Risk of Rain 2 are powerful modifiers that affect each run, granting new advantages and disadvantages. These new modifiers are the Artifact of Delusion and the Artifact of Devotion, hence the Devotion update.
Starting with the Artifact of Delusion, this new modifier is very interesting. Once the teleporter event is finished, all chests interacted with will be reset, and the player will gain additional items from the reset chests. However, memory comes into play with this one as the player will have to remember which item they claimed from that chest, then pick which one they claimed out of the two other options available. Making the correct choice will grant them an additional item, giving them two of the same item in one chest.
The Artifact of Devotion replaces drones around maps with eggs. These eggs spawn Lemurian companions that fight for you upon interacting with them and sacrificing an item of the player’s choosing. It will be fun to see how devoted these companions will become once this new artifact is unlocked and activated.

An Exciting Crossover
Risk of Rain 2 will introduce a new crossover skin from another hit game, Dead Cells: the prisoner skin for the mercenary survivor. This isn’t the first time that this crossover has occurred. Dead Cells had a previous update featuring new crossover weapons and skins from other games, including Risk of Rain 2, like the huntress’s laser glaive and the commando skin for the character. Seeing the prisoner in action in Risk of Rain 2 shares an equal love for both amazing games.
