Assassin’s Creed: Mirage came out almost a year ago and made an impression on the Assassin’s Creed fan community. One of the most memorable characters in the game was Roshan—the Master Assassin who mentored Basim, the protagonist of Mirage. Throughout the game, and in an Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla DLC, we understand Roshan’s character a bit. Here’s everything we know about her.
Roshan’s Backstory
Roshan was married off to a Persian harbor master at a young age but soon killed him due to his abusive nature. After escaping the ship where she lived with her husband, she found herself at the House of Wisdom, a library/academic building. There, she began being mentored by Bakhit, an inventor. She also continued her education at the House of Wisdom, something she was deprived of, most likely due to being married and taken from her home at the age of fourteen.
Eventually, Bakhit enlisted Roshan as his assistant, and from there, the two moved to Thatta, a city in southern Pakistan. Once there, she began training in combat and found that Bakhit wanted to use her for experimentation. Eventually, she ran away from Thatta alongside an old client of Bakhit, Maryam. She worked as a bodyguard while keeping the books for Maryam’s brothel.
After working at the brothel, she veered off, began working for one of Maryam’s clients, and became his bookkeeper. The client, Dervis, helped her save her sister, Masha, from her abusive husband. Masha went to live with Roshan’s other sister and her husband, leaving her to begin a new life working with Dervis. Eventually, she is wrongfully arrested and imprisoned for theft; in this prison, she meets a mercenary, who eventually leads her into a life of the Creed.
As An Assassin
Decades after joining the Brotherhood, Roshan became a Master Assassin and served on the Alamut Brotherhood council. Eventually, she meets Basim, the main protagonist of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. She takes it upon herself to train Basim. At first, she’s not impressed by him, a former street thief. But, once Basim manages to steal an essential artifact for Roshan and the Brotherhood, he is tentatively welcomed in.
She begins to train Basim as a Hidden One, showing him the ways and histories. Eventually, she has a conflict with Basim as he tries to discover more about his history and true self as a reincarnation of Loki. Once Basim discovers this, after a climactic fight between the two of them, Roshan leaves the Hidden Ones but is still loyal to the creed. The last of her Creed that we see is her with Eivor, the main protagonist of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
Conclusion
While many have issues with Basim as the main protagonist, most agree that they love Roshan. While some may not agree with her actions, her loyalty to the Hidden Ones and the creed is admirable. Her story is rich, and it draws you in. It’s unclear if we’ll see more of her, but she’s certainly a memorable character in the Creed lore.
