Final Fantasy VII is one of the best in the series. What else makes the top 5? Square Enix

2 Final Fantasy Games Confirmed for Xbox – Big News for JRPG Fans

Final Fantasy is coming to Xbox! Well, two of them are, at least. Following in the footsteps of recent mainline entries XV and XIII, as well as a slew of the older mainline games and spinoffs from previous classic generations, Square Enix is releasing two of its newer entries to Xbox Series, VII Remake Intergrade and XVI. At the Xbox Showcase on June 8, the news about the blockbuster series was dropped, with announcement trailers showing off the gameplay of the modern JRPGs. One game in particular, in fact, can be purchased right now.

Final Fantasy Attempting To Reach A Larger Audience

Square Enix has claimed that their bigger blockbuster games have underperformed expectations, after the sales success (perhaps not critical success, though) of Final Fantasy XV. XVI and VII Rebirth, specifically, seem to have sold less than the studio was hoping for. Maybe, just maybe, it is because they are so insistent on dropping the games as PlayStation exclusives to start, with migration to PC at a later date. Now, the goal is to expand reach further by bringing these entries to Xbox (and VII Remake Intergrade to Nintendo Switch 2), something they probably should have done in the first place if they wanted to maximize sales, but hey, what do I know?

Snark aside, it is great to see Final Fantasy games making their way back to Xbox and Nintendo. Something just feels right about letting all gamers play games from the series that really popularized JRPGs in America as a true force in the video game space. Does this mean anything for the future release of games? Maybe, maybe not. The aforementioned XV was released on all three platforms (excluding Nintendo) on launch, but games before and after it were not. If Square really wants to make a change, though, ending the series exclusivity for good would be a smart start.

Final Thoughts

For Xbox fans of JRPGs, this should be a refreshing piece of news for you, as Final Fantasy is one of the most well-known JRPG franchises out there, and being able to play some of the newest games is a boon. Best of all, Final Fantasy XVI is available and on sale right now, if you want to purchase and play. VII Remake Intergrade, meanwhile, will be coming to Xbox this winter. Both will be available for Xbox Series, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud.
